    condition condition condition

Do you still enjoy owning rifles even if they have problems. Myself No. I am pleased that right now every rifle and pistol i own work properly. It drives me crazy having mechanical problems with my guns.
Many here love project guns and that is not what i am talking about. I am about regular shooters that seem to have problems at the range.

Can you give some details on the mechanical problems?

My little .22 doesn't like to feed at least once per mag. I've only shot it once though

I don't like having anything that doesn't work properly. I do have some bikes I'm doing race restos on but when finished they will function 100%. My 98 Mauser based .280 is doing light primer strikes and FTF. I changed to a Wolf firing pin spring but still nothing. This is driving me nuts now. I have over 300 rounds through this rifle and now this. I'm thinking I may have some lug setback and excess head space.

            Most of the ones I've seen at the range are newbie gun owners who are not familiar with their firearms. I myself had a couple;
One was a M1916 Spanish Mauser, which the shell keep getting stuck after firing - Had to use a cleaning rod to loosen the shell up. I ended sending it back to SAMCO (where I bought it) and asked for a refund. That was the 3rd M1916 Spanish Mauser in a row I had problems with, just had enough and didn't want to screw with it any more. Don't what the problem with it (other than it was a M1916 Spanish Mauser that was rechambered in 7.62X51) and and didn't care, at that point.
The other was more simple; My Yugo 24/47 when I 1st had it, was doing a lot "soft-strikes" (hitting the primer but the not hard enough to fire the bullet) but a simple replacement of the firing pin spring did the trick.
Other than those two - I've no other issues.

Maybe a good pre inspection and preventative maintenance is in your future?

                    I enjoy buying them broke
Then repair/refinish and shoot the heck out of them

Then buy more to do the same

It always works out that 2-3 need work
Then they are replaced by the next 2-3

                      .
                      Yes Sir..

I finished building assembling an AR pistol about 6 weeks ago. I just can't get it to run right. I don't shoot at ranges so its a 1.5hr drive out to BLM land to test fire after I've made adjustment.

I'm tempted to drill out the gas port.add an adjustable gas block and be done with it..

That darn Rossi M92 44mag is giving me fits too. I think I'll tape a toothpick to the front sight, maybe is wont shoot high using a toothpick.
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Just take a finer sight. If that don't work then a taller front sight.

I generally won't own guns that don't work. On some of the collectble ones I can sort of overlook it they aren't meant to be range or defense or hunting guns. I only have 1-2 guns I'm not willing to shoot.

I don't take major exception to a minor issue here or there, but prefer things to be working properly. Most major issues I've encountered with anything I own involve the use of enbloc clips, which mostly just seems to require weeding out the ones that fit well and the ones that don't. Carcanos and Steyr m95s, at least mine, can be picky about clips, some just work and some just don't. Other than that, no problems worthy of mention. Sometimes both my mausers and arisakas will not pick up a round if the follower binds, but it's rare. One of the reasons I like inline magazines over staggered, although the mauser mag system is considered far superior to earlier designs, I fail to see why.

I have a 1918 long Carcano made by Roma that is a bit finicky on feeding I keep it around because it's a rare manufacturer and I have other Carcanos that work fine. Also it's my only long one besides a m41. Long ones are hard to come by at least in SoCal.
