Between E Bay and Sac: Looking for a place to shoot

hi everyone,

i live in the east bay. i go to sacramento all the time via 24/680.

i want to go shoot out "in the middle of nowhere".

When i lived in los angeles, i went out towards lancaster/mohave... there were lots of places to do so.

there are just too many people and ranches and private whatevers up here in norcal for that... cant seem to find a place.

my kid and i want to go shoot tomorrow "out in the middle of nowhere", which must fulfill the following requirements:

1. its <3hrs drive from the oakland area to reach
2. its <1hr from sac

anyone help? where can i take my own targets, my own guns, and shoot bottles and plink on land somewhere and not get shot/arrested by Rambo the Sheriff?

The Oroville range is the only thing that comes close to that criteria.

Concord, Chabot or Livermore range. Paper targets only. No areas in the wild. Good luck with that.

Lots of national forest east of Sac off 50 or 80. Need more heads up than "I'm going tomorrow". I'm in San Joaquin county, and have a few places to shoot, but not on a moments notice, and it's ag country, so there's always the possibility that they're working the dirt. What about ranges? PAX

There aren't a lot of "in the middle of nowhere" places, but the ones I know about are in the map .. see link below.

FTI, gallon jugs, 1 liter bottles are good to go to go. Glass and plastic cups make a mess. Also, some rual areas aren't good for metal gongs. PAX
