A current message thread about a new movie starring Brad Pitt as a U.S. WW2 tanker and a real WW2 German Tiger tank got me thinking about tanks...which, long with other armored vehicles, half-tracks, Jeeps, military motorcycles, big staff and command cars, and aircraft of every sort, are one of my true loves.
That old t.v. series "Rat Patrol" inspired me to own a couple WW2 Ford GPW Jeeps (I never did get the Browning machinegun on the stand though), but I've always wanted a mega-ton steel behemoth with tracks and a big gun
So what are your favorite tank movies? Which ones actually use the correct tanks for the period and nations involved and which ones don't? Which ones took a lot of liberties with historical accuracy - post-war U.S. tanks wearing WW2 German battle crosses or that sort of thing - but were still great movies?
My favorite tank movies, or at least movies that featured a tank in a prominent role that I can quickly think of off-hand: Kelly's Heroes, Battle of the Bulge, Saving Private Ryan, The Beast, even "Tank Girl".
Anyone own a tank or similarly cool military vehicle? If you do, photos please!
