    yugo m48 bent bolt stuck

Hello all, i recently purchased a Yugoslavian m48 bent bolt. the shipper had removed the bolt from the rifle.

My problem is i cannot get the safety to budge. if you partially insert it, the safety is all the way over to the left, and i cannot get it to budge. i have soaked it in mineral spirits and t shines very well, when i put it into the stock, i can still get no response out of it as for turning....also all the sr#'s do match, i was thinking it was a mismatch .

    any ides.

    thanks , frustrated.

The cocking peice might be worn. Try pulling back on it and toggling the safety selector.

Bold/Underlined is your problem. [3 position safety] All the way to the left "9 0:clock" is "fire" position and it is impossible to engage safety without first cocking the FP assem and placing the safety into the straight up 12: O:clock" position. All the way to the right "3 O:clock" is the locked/safe position and thw weapon won't fire or the bolt lifted.

Hook the cocking piece on the edge of work bench, Pull down on bolt body until CP clears safety cam and safety can be engaged into the 12 oclock position. Then place the bolt assembly into reciever and you should be good to go.

Yup, same here. Hell, sometimes still do it if I'm braindead when unscrewing a bolt from the bolt sleeve and the safety is not engaged!

OP:, Once you acquaint yourself with the Mauser action, you will have a true appreciation for its simplicity, durability, and the lineage that it shares with most modern rifles. It is even simpler and more foolproof than a Mosin bolt because it can only go together one way and there are no adjustments to make such as with a Mosin firing pin depth.

ok so up date, i got it apart, put it back together was a snap. cleaned up very nice. now insert the bolt into the furniture, and the safety still wont move.i can wile rebuilding it put it in the up position , then install . the safety will not move from the up position in any config of the bolt. its like the safety is frozen.....i get it to move out side f the bolt...but put the two together and it will not move. is it possible, its worn, or haunted..

Has to be cocked to move. If it's cocked and won't move, the safety hasn't been fitted to the rifle. And yes, you will find that on a M48, that's all matching. Where are you located?

                          I'm in Dixon.
If you want to bring it by, I'll show you how to fix it, might take a whole 15 mins.
