Fold up a towel and place it between your shoulder and the buttstock

come on really? 10 to 15 rounds is nothing and yes i have a mosinT53.
now 100 to 200 rounds will leave a bruise but i can keep shooting.

            M-44

After shooting a M-44 with the above butt pad i find the 91-30 kind of bland. i sold all my 91-30s except my AIM TULA PU sniper. the M-44 is just more fun to shoot than a 91-30 for me. Now a M-38 would be nice also. A M-95 Steyr carbine is also lots of fun 8 MM-56r in a very light compact rifle [ about the size of a M1 carbine ] . but it is about a buck a bullet to shoot. you can find them for about 150 bucks.

I love my M-44 and the time I spend shooting it helps me stretch out my ammo for other rifles. After punishing my shoulder with that 7.62x54r light ball ammo, shooting the 7.62x39 chambered rifles is nice.

I did drill out the holes on recoil pad...

There are other solutions out there, but these are cheap and easy and do work. They also extend the LOP. No permanent modification to the weapon. Obviously you will save your metal butt plate, especially if it is matching.

I use them mostly for the extended LOP. It's nice that they also help with recoil

In the first angle it seems that you are bringing the stock too high so the corner is digging into your shoulder, but then again the angle does not show your shoulder. Unless you changed how you are holding it between angles I don't think thats the issue though.

From the 2nd angle its more apparent to what you are doing:
You are raising the rifle stock to your face first
Then elevating your shoulder higher than natural to shoulder the buttstock.

The problem with this is you are exerting your muscles by elevating your shoulder higher so you are already tensed and your body can not absorb the recoil.

                        Do this instead:
Slightly move your shoulders in front of your hips (bend/hunch slightly forward)
Bring the stock up to meet the pocket of your shoulder where it is, do not exert your shoulder like you currently are.
Now bring your cheek down to the stock.
Lean into the rifle, while pulling it backwards into your shoulder with your forward hand (also note your forward hand could be a bit more forward)
Do not gap the stock off your shoulder
                        Fire
Do not fight the recoil allow it to do its work.
Your body is now acting as a spring and will absorb the recoil.

You need to also work on your foot placement:
Slightly wider than shoulder width stance
Standing more square to the target (Not bladed as you are now)
                        Offhand side's foot slightly forward
                        Slight bend in your knees

If you do this there need for a recoil pad.. not even for people that say they need it for length of pull, as the way described above should also account for that

                            Congrats - I love my M44!

If you need a recoil pad, try this:

Normally I just use a shop towel and fold it, it works just fine.

I use a 3/4" thick piece of neoprene pipe insulation.
We had a couple sheets left over from the new building at my work.
I just cut a piece to fit my shoulder, stuff it under my shirt, and I can shoot all day.
I also bought a Kick Killer lace up recoil pad.
It works well and looks nice on my M44.
