    M1 Carbine Magazine options

Last year I got a hold of an M1 Carbine that came with two pristine USGI 15 round rebuild kits. Unfortunately I was busy and never got around to cleaning and shooting it. Now that I have time I want to go out and shoot it, but need to procure some 10 round magazines to comply with the stupid CA state laws.

    I have a few options:

    1. Epoxy a mag block onto my pristine 15 round mags making them 10 round magazines. I'd rather not do anything irreversible as these mag rebuilds have some sentimental value to them.
    2. Buy 10 round Pro-mags. They have horrible reviews and I want something that I'm just going to throw away due to feeding issues.
    3. Auto Ordinance 10 rounders? I have heard they weren't compatible with USGI receivers and that they have feeding issues as well.
    4. Somehow acquire more 15 round USGI mags? Do they still sell them at gun shows in CA or did the new laws nix this? Can I have an out of state seller disassemble it for me and ship it in two different boxes to two different addresses?
    5. Buy mag blocks and ship them out of state. Pay for mags/blocks/labor to have 10 rounders made and then shipped to me. Anyone know of anyone who offers this service?
    6. Wait for Keepshooting.com to resupply. I've been watching them for a few months now and they have always been OOS on the 10 rounders.

This really sucks. I have a feeling I'm never going to be able to shoot this gun without having to pay 100 dollars to have mags blocked out of state for me Anyone else have any ideas?

So you have 2 mag kits that you can make into 10 round models with some method-

    Harbor freight rivet gun
    Epoxy
    Etc.

So you have two mags to use until other places selling 10 rounders come into stock or you find some used 10 rounders on gun broker
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

I did a pretty cool deal. I used glued together Popsicle sticks and tapered them at the top to form a block... so I literally blocked my mag, lol. It actually worked pretty well

Bag of Popsicle sticks from a craft store and some white glue. Less than $10

I haven't been able to get it to work with my 30rnd mag. The curve makes it hard

How many do you want? I'll make you a few. I still have the block and my drawing measurements

The only difficulty in replacing 15 round carbine mags is the restrictive laws, not the lack of availability in the real USA. If you're really that emotionally attached to your current mags... why not modify them so you can use them?

Heck I have quite a stash of legally obtained 15 rounders, more than I will ever need. I'd donate a few of them to you but only in a manner that is legal... I guess if you provide the blocks I'll block off 2 mags and give them to you. Will that work?

I'm assuming this is legal for me to do, if not I will not do it.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

Its not legal to acquire hi cap mags. I had carbine and sold it because the mag issue was a hassle.

Not all Pro-Mags fail to feed. Why not get a couple and try them?

OK... thanks for clearing that up!!

However, the topic of the discussion is how to obtain 10 round magazines for an M1 carbine, not whether it is legal or not to obtain "hi cap mags".

I used gorilla glue (the foaming poly type) and glued the plastic block in place. It won't budge, but if you want to take it apart at a future date you can use a heat gun to reverse adhesion. The permanent 10 rd conversion is so vague. I don't see a difference in this verses the rivet method other than the rivet has forever put a hole in your mag
                Cheers

I would not permanently modify your mags. As the other calgunner suggested, buy what ever 10 carbine mags you can find(they should be cheap) and see if they work, might be surprised in a good way.

Ok, i maybe a little slow, but why dont you just use your 15 round mags? The M1 carbine is featureless isn't it? Are you sure there aren't any more 15 round mags in the back of your closet you've had for years?
                    They gave, so we have.

everyone seems to agree that the keepshooting 10 rounders are the best out of all of them. The only issue is they sell out really quick and are not often in stock.

I'd wait for them to restock and buy a bunch when it happens.

Yo asked if it was legal to transfer your hi cap mags to someone here. The answer is no. You cannot bring in rebuild kits unless already blocked and cannot transfer the mag body at all.

10 round mags are available and keep shooting mags are the best.

I wouldn't permanently modify the mag kits you have now. If you ever move to a free state or if hell freezes over here, you'll be sol.

Keep your eyes open and you can probably find some 10 rounders. Maybe even already modified(blocked ones) for sale here or somewhere else online.
