You can never go wrong with any SKS. Better one than none.
Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.
One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

These are GTG. They are CAKED with cosmo. Take time to properly clean it. You might get lucky and they send you a Russian.

^^^ I concur, they are great rifles,I had one that was exactly as yours is described.
battle scarred and lots of dings and bangs on the stock from long-term storage.
mine was a early 6 digit chinese made version that was stored in albania and even had the Russian word for attack / strike carved into the stock.
the blueing was faded in most places but all the parts were good.
it shot well and I've never had a jam but I did sell it and I will tell you one of the reasons because its something you should know as a new SKS owner...

the SKS is a great one of the last great deals for semi-automatic rifles but here in California there are additional restrictions for instance you cannot have a removable magazine and although Tapco sales them, you must modify them so they cannot be easily removed /detachable.

secondly if you changed from its original configuration (like adding a stock that has a pistol grip on it.)you have to follow the federal guidelines to the federal 922 complaint laws...basically have to make sure a lot of the gun is now American parts.
if you look it up its not a big deal & not very expensive but a little bit of a hassle.
but good luck and I think you've chosen wisely.

No need to worry, you're getting a great, fun to shoot rifle. Just be prepared for the cosmoline cleanup.

Did you cough up the extra $40 for hand picked?

I want to get one before they are gone.

I wanted to make sure these were C&R, I know the site says they are, but read somewhere that the Norinco was not because they are too hard to date. Just don't want to get a knock on the door from ATF, or whoever, saying I have an illegal rifle.

Oh any advice on how to clean up the cosmo? I'm new to this and would love I put. Also, the paperwork I send to DOJ with $19, is that per firearm? Cup the SKS is riding with a Mosin too.

Take your time as others have said and clean the cosmoline off well. It gets into everything. Then have fun - they are good, functional shooting rifles.

it's not a norinco. it's a chinese military rifle, "56 year type", made in jianshe arsenal aka factory 26. it predates norinco.

Perhaps chairman mao himself inspected your rifle?
