    Mk 4 No 1 Question

I have one of those spike bayonets for my Enfield, which looks just ridiculous (IMHO).

(Can you guess which is for the Enfield?)
Is there any other bayonets made for this gun?

Pretty sure it's the baby one. As I recall, there is a bladed one for that rifle, no. 4?

There is a blade, but it is not much bigger than the toad sticker you have shown here. I found this pic on the interwebs, as i don't have a good pic of my own.

        Awesome...

I don't know why they transitioned from the beautiful, Wilkenson type bayonets, to those hideous things. I think they should have gone bigger, like a Kukri bayonet, or something...

The #7 bowie blade bayonet will fit the #4 even though it is made for the Sten Mk5.

There is also the So. African No. 9, which uses an Uzi blade mated to the No. 9 socket. Here's a pic showing the So. African No. 9 bayonet next to an Uzi blade that came from Israel.

Don't be to quick to blow off the No. 4 spike bayonet. They are cheap to collect and come in lots of different variations. Check out the No. 4 Spike Bayonet Page of my site. However, be forewarned, "spike fever" is contagious.

Any suggestions where to look for a No.9 MK1 Bayonet (besides ebay)?

The spike isn't as traditional looking as the blade bayonet, but it gets the job done. I like the look of the spike on the No.4 rifle better than the blade. The blade not having a handle looks odd to me.

Yes, I still think the spike ruined quite a few days

Was the Wilkenson type the cruciform bayonet? In 1962 they were selling them at the Army-Navy store in Santa Rosa for 10 cents each either for a spike bayonet, or cruciform. I had one of the cruciform bayonets, but it "disappeared" from my Dads house after I moved away from Sonoma some 43 years ago.

I have read that the spike bayonet was designed specifically for penetrating the heavy German army wool overcoats and gear of WW1. Allegedly the blade bayonet P07 had a bit of trouble in that regard if the bayonet point wasn't presented just so.

The reality is though that a bayonet is more of a tool than a weapon and the spike bayonet is only good as a substitute tent peg - other than sticking people.

Wilkinson is one of the many makers, p1907 is the bayonet.
