    Which Endfield to buy

I am interesting in a getting a Enfield No 3 or 4. Empire Arms currently have a Candian Long Branch and a Pakistani POF. They both look great, have a mirror bore, and priced the same. Im leaning towards the Pakistani, like the dark color. I have read soeme mix things about the Pakistani. Just wanted to see which would you get and why. Also any info about the SMLE would be greatly appreciated.

A candle flickered into life, symbol of hope for millions. A single tiny candle, shining in the ugly dark. I laughed and blew it out."

From what I saw at the empire site the Long Branch for sure. Claimed to be excellent original condition. It's from Canada, a first world country.

Plus, Long Branch's are considered to be highest quality by collectors.

Not into POF, have seen a few and was not impressed. Ishapor not good either. I have some POF HK rollerlock parts and they are not much either.

I would go with a No 4 MK2, Fazakerley RAF contract gun. Brand new for around $500-600, really the best Enfield and the best deal for something that is new or near new.

Horrible shooting by me but so much fun:

The Pakistani is the better choice, the Long Branch sounds like it has a renumbered bolt, plus the Pakistani is a Mk2 & looks more original & not so knocked about, if you do not mind the "ishey screw" in the forend, then i would go for the Pakistani.

Why limit yourself to what they have available ? I have a longbranch and BSA no 4mk 1, but my heart and wallet always go to no 1's. The smle is my favorite rifle. Do some research, decide what you like and watch gunbroker. Get one that at least has a matching bolt, as they are fitted to each rifle. Be patient and purchase.
              Cheers.

Yeah ive been looking, but nothing has caught my eye like the Pakistani SMLE. Its all matching and has a mirror 5 grove bore. Only question i have is what does a*0-marked bolt-head mean ?

The no 4 mk1 is technically not an smle. You can find one for a much better price on GB. Keep looking and be patient. In my opinion jungle carbines are way over rated and if its your only enfield you're selling yourself short on experiencing one of the greatest rifles made (although they do have there place in a collection ). If you are patient you might be able to find a no 1 and a no 4 for a little over what they are selling one of those for.

Do not underestimate the Savage #4 rifle. I think they challenge for the best made #4 but that is just my opinion.

                          1. BSA
                          2. Savage
                          3. Longbranch
