    armslist - scam warning.

    --

Scanning through arms list I came across an ad for an original WW2 MP44 parts kit assembled on a replica Japanese Shoei receiver - only $3400.00

This was something I was very interested in.

Not because MP44 parts kits are $3500 +, or Shoei receivers are $1000 +

I was interested in it because it was my gun in the photo's in the armslist ad, taken by me - for an old ad on gun boards forums - (The gun in my avatar)

So, I contacted the seller about buying it - for fun really - knowing that it was going to boil down to me sending money, but having a bit of fun, too.

First he says CO, so I say that where I live, then he says NH, so I say, great that's where I work...

I ask about the box and manuals he says he has, because there are none, and I want to see what he comes up with

Be careful out there - scammers are rife when the price goes up.

Emails start at the bottom - work up

    -- pit --
PS - I have had about fifteen great arms list transactions, too.

Waiting to hear, exact dates -

Could you send me a pic of the box and manuals for the MP44 as mentioned in your email - please -

Also a close up of the numbers on the lower receiver -
in the ad it says these are real parts.
I'll gladly pay cash or wire you the money, but just need to confirm the parts around the receiver are real (authentic WW2) as stated in the ad.

    Thank you,

    JJ

Great, I'll go to the post office tomorrow Am -
I'll need a physical residence, I am not sending $1100 to a PO box, obviously.

        I can't wait,

        Thank you!

I attached almost 20 pictures for you, those are the exact ones I am able to get now sorry, I am old-fashioned , my son helped me get those shots and he has gone out of town with his wife now and kids now. Do not worry, you will see everything for yourself when you come here,I won't cash the fund until you come down here and finalise everything, it will just be in the bank for commitment sake.

I have asked for a physical address to send the check to - I think that will be the end of it.

I posted a copy of this thread under my old ad on gun boards, too.

I just recently got had by a Polish MP44 parts seller on flea bay - Canvas pouch, Ebay could't get me the money back, it was a screw up on my part, too - the scammers must be drawn to the MP44.

I recently answered an add on Armslist for a Sig X5. There was the usual back-and-forth in trying to set-up a time to meet. The seller mentioned using a delivery service, I politely refused, he then suddenly stopped all communication. The seller had a thick Asian accent.

Armslist has been completely ruined by thieves like that guy. I had one successful transaction on AL and the seller was on the up and (Romanian SKS). A few months later I went after a Garand that was listed at $650. I discovered that the pic in the ad was recycled from the internet.

I asked the seller to post a fresh pic of the Garand sitting next to a current news paper and he stopped answering emails. Nothing infuriates me like vile thieves such as these mentioned in this ad. I am very glad you saw that ad. You may have saved some other guy from getting duped.

Agreed and if that Garand appeared to be a HRA service grade from the CMP in the photos, I also stopped getting e-mails after probing a bit more about it. I've had successful transactions being the seller, but even those are rife with scammers or people who want to conduct illegal transactions.

That isn't just limited to Armslist. I have had people on this site PM me about C&R guns this year and ask to back date the deal to last year and avoid registration / fees. Whether it be a DOJ shill or run of the mill dirtbag it is still infuriating.

Because some guy thinks you're really going to risk legal trouble to help him save $35 . Any best known methods on how to avoid scams on armslist?

I know there's a guy selling a beautiful converted TIGR rifle on ARF15 right now. He recently updated his add to warn someone has already hi-jacked all of his pictures and posted it for sale elsewhere. Seems like the USPS (or someone) should be cracking down on this since it's getting so prevalent.

You and me both...you want me to risk what again? So you can save $35 and two trips to the LGS? WTF, over?
You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.

I'm on another forum, and there's a guy on there that got burned on Arms-list this week over an old Winchester lever gun.

                              Be careful, guys.....
