    IBM ready for the Range

I finally finished cleaning up the IBM today. I tore it down to the last pin and spring and rebuilt it though I didn't take the front sight off. Wood was cleaned, oiled, and gunny pasted.
I'll have to take a range trip soon and Zero it in.

With the IBMs serial numbers starting at 3651520, this would be #178 of the run! The reciever is just stamped I.B.M above the serial number (no period after the M).

Stock is an Underwood rebuild of a Saginaw stock.
Bolt and extractor are correct but everything else is pretty much a mix. I'm putting an Orion7 spring and plunger set on order in the morning and I'll do a full cataloging of the parts when I install the new spings.

Looks nice! An IBM carbine is high on my "to own" list.

Nice looking little riffle. Was it a CMP buy?

        yep, CMP.
Both the barrel and receiver have different markings than I've seen on other IBMs but someone over at m1carbineforum.com said it is likely an early production hand stamped receiver and barrel. I'm a happy camper yet again with CMP! Any one here have any IBM knowledge?

As far as the barrel is concerned, it looks like you got a VERY early "IBM"-stamped barrel (not "IBM Corp."). There was a discussion thread in July about the authenticity of the barrels just marked IBM, but since yours is from the CMP, then that solves the mystery.

Your barrel is even dated the same as the one from that thread: only difference is that yours has the ordnance bomb, where the previous one didn't.

I would say that you lucked out, and got a very early receiver (with matching barrel). So, you hit the CMP lottery....again. I'm not an expert, though: I just play one on the message boards.

And that's awesome that you got a Lineout IN-to-UEF from the CMP as well. You should buy a lottery ticket: you're very lucky.
