    Online long gun purchase question

STILL trying to master the byzantine web of confusion that is 2014 state regs...

I am a C&R and COE holder. If I purchase a C&R eligible bolt action long gun via internet auction (Ex: Gunbroker), I need to report this to DOJ BOF. So:

    -Which form do I use?
    -Where do I get it?
    -Is there a fee/how much?
-Anything else I need to do to fulfill legal requirements?

The BOF FAQ did not address these, so I'm trying to figure out where to go to get accurate answers. Is there another DOJ web page I should be aware of?

    Thanks in advance-
    Pat

    I believe it's this form:

And it's $19 per form, not per firearm.

      Outstanding, thank you, sir.

Are FTF transactions now completely verboten, even if both parties are C&R/ COE holders, and the item transferred is a C&R long gun?

      Best,
      Pat

You can still FTF ONLY if you have an 03 and COE (which you have). Still has to be registered though... so form and $19

Holding a C&R and COE will still allow you to buy eligible firearms (long guns) ftf but now just need to fill out the in state form and pay the fee. record it in your books and work on the next deal.

            Pat,

The only thing I can add is in the case that you win an auction from an 01FFL within CA, you either have to pick it up in person or have to have it shipped to a local FFL to DROS. Once it is in the CA FFL's book, they have to DROS to get it to you, and you can only do that in person. So that still sucks.

Hopefully the deals you run into will be out of state... less hassle.

            Take care my friend,

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

Just to clarify on in state F2F transactions with long guns, only the BUYER has to hold the FFL03 + COE. Not the seller, seller can be anyone as long as the long gun is 50 years old or older OR is listed in the ATF's list of Curios & Relics.

                Allcon,
Thanks very much for taking the time to answer and clarify my questions. It's actually a bit less complicated than I first assumed.

Brian, good hearing from you! I'd anticipate that all of the Gunbroker stuff will be coming from out of state, just seems that way...

Thanks again gentlemen, I appreciate it.

                  Most excellent advise

This thread has ... so far ... the best and most succinct advise on how to acquire your C&R eligible long gun if you have a C&R + COE.

I had a suspicion that acquiring your C&R long gun from outside of CA into this state was probably easier than doing so within the state boundaries.

                  Thanks guys!

The biggest obstacle online is all the fud busting and hand holding you have to do with SOME out of state sellers. Some will not sell any firearms to here whether legal or not. Even still others will charge a fee even though registering with the CFLC is free.

For the DOJ reporting form, if I'm reading it correctly, it is only $19 total, not per gun. Is that correct?

                      Thanks

Yes. You can put multiple rifles on the same DROS (not sure on the limit, but I know you can do three at least)

This is NOT true for handguns though. Only ONE handgun/ DROS

I have put multiple handguns on the DOJ C&R reporting form with no problems.
