    awesome range session!

If y'all recall I recently acquired my great grandpa's service .38 (model 1905 3rd change 3" barrel). I had never shot it before and took her out to the range last night. The very first group results were phenomenal for a gun over 100 years old that has been carried by 3 different members of my family during their LEO stints!

It was consistently shooting groups like this during my range session, so I'm absolutely stoked to start reloading for it to see if I can tighten up the pattern a bit more! ammo used was Remington .38 130gr FMJ

That's when they really hand-finished a revolver - nice shooting.

Seriously. I took the sideplate off to clean/lube her before i took her out and the machining work inside there on the little parts is absolutely mind blowing. no slop, no play, everything fits together seamlessly. Lockup is still tight and tolerances are still spot on.

Makes me really want to start collecting the older S&W's

Great history! Where did they serve their LEO careers. Any pics of them carrying it?

Those older Smiths shoot heavier bullets the best. They were designed when the standard service load used a 158gr lead slug. My 1950 K38 shoots all over the target with the 130gr factory loadings. When I switch to 148gr wadcutters it puts them all in the same hole.
