    Quick C & R/COE?

Having a C & R and a CA COE, is an additional form of residency proof required on buying either a C & R or a "regular" handgun? When buying a handgun before I had my COE, some places accepted the C & R as proof of residency, some did not.

I've used COE as POR for a regular handgun. I just had to bring a copy of the cover letter DOJ sent with it that had my address printed on it.

Also, C&R+COE = C&R cash & carry from an FFL

the c&r serves as proof of residency since it's a government issued license with your name, address and expiration date.

First you get a C & R FFL from the ATF - request the form on line. Then you complete the COE form from CA BOF: http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/coeapp.pdf

Takes about 2 months from start to finish, total cost about $125.00 for both licenses, takes about 15 minutes to complete each form.

Thanks for the info. If you have a C&R already why do we need a COE?

You don't NEED a COE. But if you do have a COE with your C&R, then you are exempt from the 10-day wait on C&R firearms from 01 FFLs, you just have to DROS it, but you can cash-and-carry right afterward.

And with C&R+COE, you are exempt from the 1-in-30 days limitation for all handguns, C&R and modern.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

one more thing: having a C&R + COE exempts you from the 1 handgun per 30 days rule, including new guns (not just C&R)

I just did my LiveScan fingerprinting for my COE. So I just send out the COE application, with money, and copy of my LiveScan and wait? How long does it usually take? What do you get in the mail exactly? I actually got my FFL last week before I went to the Reno Gun Show, but I didn't see it between the mail 'till Tuesday night!

Takes about 2 weeks for the COE to be processed. You'll get a numbered cerificate and a separate sheet of white paper with your address on it. Hang on to the sheet with your address, the COE doesn't have an address, as a back up form of residency proof.

If you get antsy you can call DOJ to check status - I believe the lady who processes them is named Peggy.
