that's an HRA serial number, yes? for some some reason, many HRA's went to Greece, and it is common to find electro-pencil on Greek returns. which were sold by CMP.

for $25, CMP will tell you if a rifle was sold through their program.

Had a Letterkenny Army Depot rebuilt SA that was electro pencil marked LEAD 1-66 on the receiver leg.

The Danish returns sold years ago also had serials etched on the boltsalthough as I remember they just used the last4 digets

Seems normal, this is not uncommon on C&R guns. I'd leave it alone.

You could sand it off and refinish, but then you'd definitely hurt the value

Some National Guard units electro-penned the number on the bolt as well.

Has no historical or value significance from a "purists" perspective since the # doesn't match the gun, otherwise, no big deal outside of cosmetics. If it head spaces and functions normally, it's doing the job.

Ditto. I owned one with the same markings.

fairly common as some have said..I think it hurts resale a bit, maybe $50

it wouldn't hurt resale for me, it's just evidence it's been through a rearsenal process

I have heard if the authorities confiscate your guns they will electro pencil the case number on them. Do not know what that looks like.
