    Impulse Luger buy

I did it again, another impulse buy, this time I found this Imperial Luger and just could not resist.

I had a Luger many years ago but it was a non matching number gun. In fact, if I remember correctly, there was not a single part on it that had the same number. In addition to the fact that it was a mutt, it was depressingly unreliable seemingly unable to get through a single magazine without a stoppage of some sort.

Anyway, since then I really haven't been looking for a Luger due to the prices being insanely high on them, even shooter grade guns were priced beyond what I was willing to pay for one.

Apparently, this had just come into the shop a day or two before I got there. The story was that a woman had inherited it from her uncle and she had no use for it.

This is a all matching number gun except for the magazine, even the grip panels and firing pin are numbered to the guns serial number. The magazine, while not numbered to the gun is a correct wood bottom magazine from WWI.

1913 Imperial German P08 made by DWM:

The pictures don't really show the condition of the finish, but except for the pitting at the muzzle, the inspectors marks (blood pitting?) and a small amount at the rear of the barrel extension, the finish is about 85% or so, with strong straw colors on the trigger etc..

Not bad for a 101 year old gun. Another thing that I found interesting about this Luger is that prior to mid-1913, military Lugers were made without the lug for a shoulder stock. This one with serial number 3300a was made early in the year and thus has no provision for a stock.

Nice. You should show it over at the Luger forum.

Well done. Very nice grips too. May I use one of your photos for a screen save?

        I love my 1916.
Change springs including mag spring. I still wouldn't want my life to depend on it. But it can be 99% reliable.

Admittedly, I've only put a few hundred rounds through it, but my 1942 byf is stone reliable and accurate as heck.

I doubt that I will shoot this one, I am unwilling to take a chance on breaking a numbered part. I guess this means that I'll have to keep looking for a shooter.

I'm guessing the pitting is from being in a wet holster for some days. The holster was closed at the muzzle end and water would collect there. Just a guess. Nice pistol! If you are looking for a shooter, try an Interarms Mauser, they can be bought for under 1k and are nice and reliable with the right ammo. I have one (had it since the early 80s) and it is a great shooter.

I can relate to impulse buys.

                          Nice Luger, congratulations.

I can completely relate.. After my C&R arrived I impulsed a total of 16 Lugers. Thanks for sharing yours, she's beautiful. Do what I did, bought an new firing pin and extra springs. You should have some trouble free fun and zero worries about ruining a matching pistole unless you drop it.. I recently traded a stainless 38 snub nose for a 30 cal commercial. Works and shoots great..

Nice pickup! Of course you should shoot it...change out the FP and extractor for non-numbered parts and you'll be fine. My BYF41 Black Widow (don't you just love marketing? ) is one of the most accurate 9mm pistols I own. Such a pleasure to shoot!
You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
