scope mount for a sporterized eddystone

I've been piecing this family heirloom back together slowly and am now pretty set on a decent 3-9 scope for her. There was the remains of an old lyman diopter on the side that I tossed, no front blade, and two tapped holes on top towards the front of the receiver along with four tapped holes top and side towards the rear.

I took it to my lgs and the guy speaking for the smith scoffed at it and gave the impression that they didn't have the time or desire to do any work on it.

I've heard just putting another lyman sight but I'm pretty set on a scope.

What are my options? I've never added a scope before. Are scope mounts standardized so I can buy a weaver rail off the rack or are they all custom fit? If they are custom fit would I be able to have someone fill the holes and retap?

    Thanks for any suggestions

IIRC, the 1917 and the Remington Model 30 are similar if not the same rifle. Remington introduced the Model 30 right after World War One for the returning soldiers who preferred a bolt action hunting rifle over the pre-war lever action hunting rifles. You might see what you can find for the Remington 30 to see if it will fit.

your '17 has had the "ears" milled off so indeed a model 30 base should fit.
It appears it may already be drilled for a bridge mount.
Remington used left over '17 receivers with the ears milled off for many years as the model 30.

Thanks guys, ordered the model 30 bases per Bruce's link and a couple plug screws for the side holes. Hopefully they match up

I just came across one of those last week. It had a split mount, one base at the reciever bridge (2 screws), one at the "Eddystone" stamping (also 2 screws). I think a full lenght mount might interfer with loading, or make it a little awkward. The one I saw was slightly different, in that it also had the stripper guides removed, was parked, and in very nice wood. The reciever profile wasn't the same as the Model 30's. PAX

Yikes. Well, the bases I ordered were two piece. Shame about the receiver profile looking different. They were cheap at least, maybe I can make one work or have something to start with.
