    $6000 bayonet

OK - this isn't the real one - but this is a replica of the experimental (field testing) Sg42 bayonet - Seitengewehr 42
    Combination - bayonet/kampfmesser
They show up so rarely, even as a replica, I am tempted.

    It is a K98 bayonet - (The MP44 does't have bayou lugs.)

There are tools inside the grip section. An interesting idea. But, clumsy...

The bayonet was made in very small numbers and issued to troops in the Eastern front.

The SG 42 is ultra rare & the all-metal 3rd version is the rarest of the three types.

COF marked blade and WaA marked 519 on blade below grip section.

Ltk marked tool (ltk is Robert Klaas)

I was bidding on an original and got up to $1500 - before I realized I really didn't want it that badly, it didn't break the reserve - they often go around the $4K mark.
One sold on wehr awards last year for $6K - and there are saved posts on the collecting forums from years old Ebay of sales in the $4-$5K range -

*This replica one is $120 - it would need some bluing and aging, but an interesting curiosity in the Mauser collection.

*There were a series of African bayonets that were very similar, also rare, but not the real thing, so be careful.
Quote:The Armalite AR10 Sudan bajonet was not made for the Dutch army. But is was odered by Armalite Interarmco to be made in Solingen by Eichhorn Germany to Sudan in 1956. Approx 7950 total with a order of 10000 Rifles to Sudan in the cal. 308 Win.

It is a rather cool late war K98 bayonet with "survival kit." -

Krag Bowie bayonets range from $2000-$5000 when they pop up on e-bay. It seems crazy but that's what they're going for...

Why would anyone pay so much for an item that they essentially cannot use for anything, other than holding it and polishing it? At least with a rifle, you can go shoot it. I don't get the bayonet love. They are cool, but for a couple of hundred dollars. For $5,000.00, you could buy a whole collection of nice C&R rifles. Guess I am only about 10% collector, the rest, shooter.

There are different categories of collector here, for sure.

Either of the bayonets mentioned above would have more worth to me than a collection of rifles that was worth $5K (which is maybe three standard matching K98's, or half of a cheap C&R NFA transferable firearm, BTW)

I started out as a C&R rifle collector who just wanted 4 or 5 bayonets to go with a few of my rifles. The bayonet bug bit me and the bayonets just kind of took over.

Very cool, bayonet collecting is just as legitimate as any other form of collecting militaria. Is it worth it, sure it is. If you opened letters with it that would be even cooler!

My next 5k is reserved for one of these, have to admit I want it more than a knife:

SMG guns, Rick Smith has done a great job - I look forward to seeing his first model replicas.
(His late model just went well over $5K on GB this week.)

I started with bayonets through guns, I wanted the correct bayou's for my rifles, then the correct dates, then matching examples, then rare frogs to go with the bayonets.
