All of the reported failures that I've heard about in the field were using frankford arsenal ammo, from 1916 IIRC

I haven't heard of any failures from the Marines in WW2 and they used 1903's through 1942.

What kind of butt plate does it have? Can you post a pic?

If the p inside circle is script it is an RIA stock, if its a block type p then its springfield. Bolt looks like Springfield as well. I agree with first assessment, no more than $400-450. Does stock appear to be sanded?

Looks like it has a "Hatcher hole" and a USMC marked Sedgley barrel, indicating a Marine Corp rifle. A lot of people look for USMC WWII rifles. Should have some collector value over and above your run-of-the-mill low number 1903.

Beat me to it. It's worth more than $450, it's a Marine rifle. I don't know how much though.

Being a 41 Sedgley it is more likely to have been installed by usmc, while most of the later ones were stored and sold off as surplus. Usmc started the hatcher hole , but from what I have read it was put into practice by others as well. So, without any further evidence I personally wouldn't buy it for more on the usmc collect able aspect.

I have seen Sedgley rifles before, but I have never seen one with a USMC marked barrel before.

Is the buttpalte checkered? I do know that is often associated with Corps issue rifles.

I've heard of USMC marked Sedgley barrels, but have not seen any in person. I've also heard that many of the USMC marked Sedgley barrels that were sold off as surplus were bent and then later straightened by unscrupulous sellers.

I have a non-USMC marked Sedgley barrel on a hi number RIA .

                          $400 for that Rifle?

$400 for that rifle when gasoline was $1.79 a gallon.

Im at work right now, but I will post a pic of the butt plate tomorrow. If by hatcher hole you mean a hole covered with a flip down cover, then it does have that. If I remember the butt plate is checkered. From what I understand my roommates father did serve in the USMC. Is it possible that he bought his service rifle? I will try to track down when he served tomorrow as well.
