    Replacing a mosin barrel

Hey guys my father in law got a bore snake stuck in the barrel of his mosin and we have tried everything to remove it. The rifling was not very good in it anyways so we are looking to rebarrel it. The only place I could find a barrel was on ebay ant they wanted 100. do any of you guys have a lead on a replacement barrel? What do you think the estimated cost would be to have a smith install the new one as well. Or should I just send him to Big 5 and get a new mosin.

Buy a new one and keep the old one for parts. Yes, Mosins do break. Not often but, they do. I know that I had to replace an extractor on one of mine before.

I dunno. This is somewhat akin to saying your AA batteries ran out, and you want to find out how to replace the chemicals inside of them. Just go buy another one. Between getting the barrel, getting it put on, and getting the headspace right, and getting the sights indexed, you are looking at easily $400-600 of work by a gunsmith. That is what? 4-5 new mosins? SO not worth it.

If you haven't got it out, you haven't tried everything.
If you're up this way, bring it with you, I can get it out.

            Shoot it out

No really, it's not like a piece of metal is in there... it's a freakin' snake... a piece of fabric

Plus, have you seen the Mosin torture test vids? Just clamp it up, and tie a string to the trigger and have at it (preferably in the desert away from people). Worst that could happen is it flies off the bench and breaks the concrete

            Honestly, I'm half joking

im tempted to give you some redneck ideas....ah hell, im going to give you some red neck ideas.

tie whatever end is sticking out to a ratchet strap

clamp rifle down by whatever means available

attach strap to car and crank that handle, if that doesnt work...

fill barrel muzzle first half way with used motor oil and tap in a good fitting brass or wooden dowel until it makes contact with obstruction, then give the dowel firm taps (beat it like it owes you money) to create a hydraulic press and pop that sucker out.

Bore snakes of mine have copper wire brushes woven in, so there is metal there. Tie the end off in a tree limb and hold on to mosin. .then swing like a monkey on it. : )

You can probably sell off all of the parts, excluding the barreled receiver, for close to the price of another complete 91/30.
