    Type 38(?)

Anyone shed more light on the markings and value of this? I realize the stock would have to be replaced.

It's aT38 long rifle made by Koshikawa. Markings are legit (S and triangle are barrel proofs)and if the bolt actually matches the rifle (matched by assembly number located on the belly of the receiver) then it's kind of cool, in that it was never rearsenaled. Bolt has the old style safety. Stock appears to have a Nagoya proof stock, which would be incorrect for this rifle.
As to value... not much to a collector. Yes, it's an early one, but you have a crap stock, ground mum, possibly missing the front band and cleaning rod, possibly mismatched. In that condition, I'd walk away unless I had a spare $50. If it is matching... hmmm, maybe $125. A new stock will around $200.

It would make a nice rifle for reenactments. I know that's sort of brutal, but that's my honest opinion.

Honesty is best. This is a pawn shop's gun and he asked me to ask around about it. It's listed as a 'Chinese Gun"...maybe a Yee Arsenal?
I'm new to C&R and haven't a clue other than the 38 which I guessed since it had the two holes. I told him I'd try to find out about it.
He said he gets alot of "Old" stuff in and will save my number for first crack at them. Maybe we'll find something useful down the road.
