    Turk Mauser

I looked at this today. Other than missing the front strap and cleaning rod, it seems to be okay....unless you know of something else.
Is it hard to find the parts and is it worth it?

That's a pretty nice tiger striped Turkish 98 actioned stock that would look nice refinished. Bores usually clean up real nice and are pretty accurate with that long sight radius/barrel. Front strap should not be that hard to fine and cleaning rods are not necessary.

They are typically very accurate, reliable, and great shooters with cast bullets.

Clean the metal up with bronze steel wool, strip out the stock and wash with gasoline/mineral spirits and stick the wood in the hot sun and let it bleed oil and then refinish.

I emailed him earlier to save it. If he does great, if not no sweat.

He had a sported Arisaka with the ugliest stock, but other than that looked okay. ground mum. I'm not the best with them, but I think it was a 38 (two vent holes).
There was a old pump 22lr for $100 which I about went through the screen to get when he said the amount, but it was in really poor shape upon closer inspection. The breech was horrible and the trigger guard had been welded...poor thing.

Check Numrich for the front band. Most of the Turks are the same parts so you might get lucky.

Most of the wood on those was replaced in the 1930s when they rebuilt them. Of course, the wood they used to rebuild them was typically Turkish Walnut, so you see many of these with really, really nice wood under all of that grime. Definitely a good thing that you grabbed it. They are very nice rifles.

You can still get them for less than that. I pick one up, a 38/46 short rifle 1945 about 3 months ago for $169. The bore is worn a bit and the stock needed some work but it turned out nice. I bought a spare barrel for it from a M38, $25 off of Ebay. It needs to be cut down and re-crowned, but the bore is mint. Good cheap Mauser platform with unlimited potential. The only difference is to make sure it has 3 locking lugs instead of 2 like the older ones. The older ones have the small danger of gas coming back in your face with pieced primers or split cases. Just wear Glasses.

I found a little Rem 22 pump...very nice mid 40's gun...someone had taken the wood burning tool to it and dotted in a deer on each side of stock and yes I still bought it
