Picked up a .32 cal Sauer & Sohns 38 H today. My buddy had it and I'm kinda holding on to it with intent to purchase it eventually. Needs a new return spring and a magazine. Need to replace those ugly grips also. Can anyone tell me if they think the finish is supposed to be worn that way or if someone tried polishing it. If they tried polishing it I'll just tell someone a GI polished it with the tears of the nazi he took it from :P

I was also thinking that if the finish is already messed up by someone else, would it hurt the value more to reblue it myself?

It's just age worn - I wouldn't re-blue it - the 38H is a terrific weapon very collectable as yours is - almost no collector value re-blued.
It was the first choice for Bond's gun, BTW - the PPK was an after-thought, according to Bothroyd Fleming's gun advisor.
Those are particularly unattractive grips - you can find originals, just keep a eye on GB, Numrich, Sarco, etc.Pitfighter.

Cool, I was probably going to just get some replica grips for now. I see Numrich has the recoil spring, I'll probably go that route. Wasn't sure if that was what it looked like aged or if someone could have tried polishing it or something, thanks for the info!

You can make pistol grips with chewing gum? Cool.
You are right, cool gun, ugly grips.I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.Comment

They are possibly the ugliest grips I have ever seen in my entire life. I would rather have rhinestoned hello kitty grips in pink and purple with flashy LED lights covered in glitter than these grips!

Nice picking up another pistol.
C&R guns are like buying a bit of history you can enjoy shooting.
Numrich - http://gunpartscorp.com/ - has some parts and grips (reproductions, for sure) available.
Let us know how it shoots.People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

I have those ones on my Luger - I think they are an improvement over the originals.Pitfighter.

Broke it all the way down and soaking small parts in Hoppes overnight. It's amazing all the grime in there!
