    SKS and C&R

Which SKS rifles can you buy outside of California and receive in California (UPS, USPS etc) with your C&R lic.?
    Chinese
    Russian
    Etc.

I know some of the YUGO's are not allowed in California at all, Is that correct?

if a rifle has a destructive device- i.e. grenade launcher; then it is banned from importation into ca. otherwise sks that qualify as c&r are fine.

most chinese SKSs are made commercially in the 80s, unless you find a vietnam capture, chances are you wont find a C&R applicable chicom

the latter yugoslavian SKSs have grenade launchers, which are illegal in CA.
Also, many of them were manufactured in the 60s, which make them not applicable for C&R status

Yugo 59's are fine to import,if you get a 59/66 have who ever you get the rifle from take the G.L.off and then your ok. No Chinese they don't qualify unless Their made with Russian parts (Chicom) remember 50 years or older and cross referance the A.W. list and the ATF's C&R list

Yugo 59s cannot be shipped into california to a C&R even if they are sans the Grenade Launcher.

No Rifle under 50 years old can be shipped in, and the Model 59 is not yet 50 years old. The name, model 59 is because it was adopted in 1959.

The OPs question was "Which SKS rifles can you buy outside of California and receive in California (UPS, USPS etc) with your C&R lic"

That being the question, the answer is all Russian, and 1957, and 1958 Romanian rifles. (1959-1962 not yet legal.)

All others have to be purchased out of state by you in person and shipped back to yourself or carried home.

Many Chinese rifles are old enough, but since the date system on the rifles cannot be proven, and very little verifiable info exists as to date of manufacture the feds have neglected to list the Chicom SKS as C&R. Verifiable Vietnam ChiCom Bringbacks would not qualify as C&R until 2011, as our official involvment was in 1961. I doubt any war trophy papers would have been issued to anyone before that. I could be wrong, It happens frequently that I am found to be wrong. Chicom SKS "Sino-Soviet" rifles started production in 1956, so it is possible that if there was some historical documentation with a Chicom before 1958, it could easily be proven to be C&R and over 50 years old.

No-Nos to ship into Ca as 03-FFL rifles are Albanian (not nearly old enough), Yugos, Not old enough even if they are 59 standard models, and Chinese.

As to the manufacture dates for North Korean, and East German SKSs I do not know. If you find one of either, tell me where.

            Thanks,

            Darin

Korean and Vietnamese SKSs are almost mythical, as not many were captured and taken home... and definitely none of them were being imported

A little bit of mis-information here. In addition to the "over 50 year old rule" firearms also listed on the federal Curio and relic list other than destructive devices and NFA weapons also qualifies as a C&R here in Calif.

Here is a link to the federal C&R list.

The list includes Romanian, Albanian, Russian and Yugo SKS or M 59 or M 59/66 rifles as C&R's. Some of which are not yet 50 years old.

No Chinese rifles are on the C&R list by name, and cannot be included as over 50 years old.......YET. Because they cannot be conclusively dated as being manufactured in a certain year.

The only hold up to having a Yugo 59/66 is the Grenade launcher. If you remove the grenade launcher it's no longer a C&R and must be transferred through a 01 type FFL holder.

With the G/L it's not allowed in the state, but federally it's a C&R.

Even though a rifle is listed on the federal C&R list California still requires a rifle that is less than 50 years old to be transfered through a dealer. Here's a quote from the DOJ website.

Firearm sales must be conducted through a fully licensed California firearms dealer. Failure to do so is a violation of California law. The buyer (and seller, in the event that the; buyer is denied), must meet the normal firearm purchase and delivery requirements. "Antique firearms," as defined in Section 921(a)(16) of Title 18 of the United States Code, and curio or relic rifles/shotguns, defined in Section 178.11 of Title 27 of the Code of Federal Regulations that are over 50 years old, are exempt from this requirement.
