Regardless, back to topic: It's his own damn business what he does with his rifle. That said I consider the archangel stock to be an abomination. Furthermore I wouldn't own his rifle. I consider it a bit too garish for my tastes. The digital camouflage is unimaginative, the brake is ridiculous, the sights make no sense, the barrel is short and I am bored to tears with the stock.

But it aint my rifle, so I don't really care either. Personally I find the one posted by 12GAUGE to be much more appealing. Then again, I consider my mint '34 Tula 91/30 to be even better. Just a matter of taste.
So I was driving home from the range and I noticed that the scent of warm steel, burnt gunpowder and lukewarm coffee combined and smelled oddly of... Peanut butter?! Man, the Hoppe's is going to my head.

      His rifle.

But as I see it, he spent a few hundred dollars to turn a $99 rifle into a $30 one. Does it actually shoot any better? I'm going to guess not by much if at all which would be my criteria for any "improvement" on any gun, C&R or otherwise.

Kind of like adding a spoiler and flames to a stock Hyundai Accent.

No, it would be like adding a cold air intake and headers and an engine tune on a Hyundai. Stickers and spoilers do nothing while the stock, brake and trigger improved it.

Is it worth what he did? Its up to the shooter to decide. I think he answered, heck yeah.

Except that it didn't need a brake until he chopped the barrel down.

Other than the trigger, he really didn't do anything to improve the rifle's functionality. The stock, the brake and the sight are all pretty much superficial "improvements." Again, all he succeeded in doing was ricing up a rifle that didn't have anything wrong with it to begin with.

As to whether it was worth it, you are correct and it's for him to decide. Doesn't mean he's not a schmuck.

Not so sure. Long barreled mosins kick hard and can use a brake.

Took mine out today and it ran flawless. I absolutely loved the way it shot, recoil was smooth and actually a lot less felt recoil then my M44. It was surprisingly accurate and consistent at 100-150 yards. I have long distant shooters and build this for a short barreled scout gun. I am more the happy with the out come..

I love me a stock Mosin. I like to see and feel the history in my hands. Makes me appreciate the efforts of those soldiers who fielded these rifles. To feel the recoil, heft, and to see these in action is just awesome.

I'm starting to like the archangel stocks more and more based on utility more than looks. I could see getting one if you want tactical rifle or sniper but you still have an inferior barrel unless you can find a heavy barrel in 7.62/r

Problem is when plastic rifles like Savage Axis II with accutrigger, or Ruger Americans can be had for around $359 with everything CNC machined to tolerances that exceed what very expensive actions had only a few years ago, new, and are accurate out of the box. Why turn a Mosin into plastic rifle?

Breaking down the costs for this Buba Rifle

Rusted Mosin M44 $150-180 (200 if no rust pic does not show bad looking Mosin)

                        Archangel Stock $150

Brass Tacker Mount $143 on sale now for 83

Gun Smith Optional $100-200 could be lower or higher but this is for cutting barrel threading and scope mount?

Muzzle Brake $50-78 did not look up

If this guy put around $500 into it plus his time for less money he could have just gotten a used Mossberg MVP or a new one for around $40 more and not wasted his time or junked an m44. The Moss MVP also has mounts for a regular scope and there are heavy barrel varmint versions.

The only way I can see doing this is if you do not reload or do not want to reload for safety reasons and you want to shoot Russian ammo because you have crates of it or you think its cheaper etc.

With Putin's invasion of Ukraine Russian you can be sure Obama will put sanctions on all arms and ammo from Russia, so ammo might go up in price, and MN's might get banned from being imported so the price of a MN could start to go up...another reason not to convert....

I have an m44 and a 91/30, which I love. I also bought a barreled action for the sole purpose of building a sporter. while I'm sure that pisses somebody off, tough s**t. if you're going to be upset whenever somebody "bubba's" a rifle, then you better go out and buy them all to "save" them. if not, shut up. 'nuff said.

I have (2) 91/30 and (1) M44. If you want a good Hog gun then the M44 is a great rifle. The 91/31 is for collecting or for building a custom rifle. IMO. I do not like "out the box" hunting rifles. (Too many Mall Ninjas.) That being said it is his rifle and he may do what he wishes. I have a Yugo 24/47 set up as my "Hunting Rifle." It is all preference. If you want to buy a brand new Remington 700 out the box and use it for hunting or long range shots, then go for it. Me personal, I would rather find that already sporterized version of a C&R rifle and do with it as you please.

Looks like he's into doing mods and so on. What ever blows wind up you skirt I guess. I liked the sight concept and wouldn't mind looking at one of them.

                                That's actually really cool

However, I don't find Mosins to be a really great "sniper" platform. And if you DO find one that's a better shooter than most, you're better off leaving it alone
