Why you should not buy a Mosin Nagant

4. working a bolt action is just too much work

7. you only shoot sub MOA
8. You feel creepy owning a gun that might have killed somebody
9. you like to fix things and the mosin never breaks.

My dad's family came from Germany. My grandfather was born there. That didn't stop my dad from lying about his age in 1944 at 17 to join the Army and becoming one of Patton's infantry. Hitler had to be stopped, he said. He fought summer of '44 through VE Day, with some time off to recover from bad frostbite on his feet at the Battle of the Bulge. Helped liberate Dachau just before the end of the war.

The Germans paid a VERY high price (7.5 million dead) for allowing Hitler and the Nazis to come to power. That is an object lesson for us today...

I must admit, some folks might call me a milsurp snob. My only Mosin is a Finn M1939. Cheap ammo for a really nice rifle. Got it four years ago for Christmas for $269.

1943 SAKO rework. Excellent bore, perfect bluing. I got an NOS stock for it, as in never finished or fitted to a rifle. Did all that, but guess what? She shoots more accurately in the dinged-up wartime stock with glued cracks through the wrist! (As in 1.5 inches off sandbags @ 100 yards with Russian light ball, meeting the Finn accuracy spec.)

I love shooting better with this from prone through my -7 diopter Coke bottle bottoms with 50 year-old eyes than the new mall ninjas with their scoped, muzzle-braked AR's in 223 can do off the bench from a bipod! (I do have a real basic AR carbine with a low-magnification scope I put together when my 93-lb daughter wanted to shoot something bigger than a rimfire, so I am not anti-AR per se.)

You have to admit, the WWII 91/30's mushy triggers and gritty actions have room for improvement...

The only one that applies to me is #1. (for all me guns)... But would never prevent me from getting any gun.

Even though I have old Norinco ("non corrosive" cough cough) ammo for my sks's I've not used it. Just the old Winchester ammo I still have.

I know others love the cleaning and consider it relaxing.

I also love cooking,,,, but hate washing the dishes,pots and pans

#3 is usually the other way around.

At the range I go to I often see people with expensive AR's that can barely hit the paper. It seems they are in a permanent state of sighting them in. They sure look cool though with all the bells/whistles.

Inevitably someone always asks about my Mosins once they see what they can do (with iron sights no less).

My grandpa joined the Navy at 17. Ended up on the USS Whitney during Japan's surprize attack on PH. His ship was able to make it out

Why you should buy a Mosin Nagant
1. You can take a wizz down the bore, and it'll probably improve it.
2. If it's no good, you can buy 5 more.
3. He won't talk to you because you can hit the steel gong at 1000 yrds, and he can't.
4. You can work it with a hammer.
5. Chicks dig bruises and scars.
6. Still better looking than the AR guys momma, and hasn't been used as much.
7. Your MOA rifle won't give you a nice tan with the fireball.
8. They had it coming.
9. Refer to #'s 1 and 4.
10. I have his rifle, and his ammo, he's drinking cheap vodka crying about it.

not so fast
I just sold my 1944 M-39 SAKO because my eyes are not good enough to take advantage of the Finn quality. I do still enjoy my 2 M-44s because they are just more fun even if i miss.
