Chamber inserts ok?

Any thoughts on using the 762x39 adapters from the below manuf. in a 308/762x51 nato, rifle?
This involves .308" barrels with .310" bullets. This has to involve higher pressures, but how much, and would it be a problem?

I'll start off with saying I've never done it and there's a reason for that. Trying to shove a bullet down a hole that's too small just seems... Well, frankly idiotic. I'd get an adapter for a 7.62x54r rifle, sure. But not a .308.

Then again you could try loading .308 diameter bullets in 7.62x39mm brass... It might be worth a try.

Also, they've been making and selling such adapters for a long time. Nobody brags about the accuracy but nobody has any real safety problems either.

Adapter worked OK on a 308 mauser I shot - probably more accurate for the swaging down of the 7.62x39 bullet.

Hmm, well if they back their product you might do it for the cheapness. 7.62x39mm is cheap ('till 2015 that is) I'm just not sure I'd do it myself.

Yea, you guys pretty well summed it up. They have a good track record, so even thought the bullet is a little bigger.... probably ok.

As others have said on the other thread just reload the proper rounds for the rifle. I am sure the insert will work but why worry about it ejecting with a spent case? If you don't have or want to invest in reloading ask for a local calgunner to help you out. good luck and keep it safe.

It's safe to use a 7.62x39 adapter in a 7.62NATO or .308 chamber. The design of the adapter in the longer chamber makes it safe. The length of freebore and the original chamber neck area allow for a healthy pressure relief.
Most x39 is loaded with .308 bullets anyhow. Swaging .002 on a copper jacket isn't much to get excited about either. When Ruger's Mini 30 came out, Russian surplus was all that was available. Some of that ran .311, with no pressure signs at all.
The only problem you'll run into, is the smaller base diameter, an extractor with a longer claw is available.
