Well, the little store I've been finding alot of vintage guns at has a new one out. I have never seen one but from what I've read I don't think they are too rare. Its a Nambu Type 94 with black checkered grip. "I've seen pictures of some with a flat plain wood grip". The finish is a little worn with some blueing being rubbed off but the barrel looked clean with nice rifling, not a whole lot of pitting or anything. Just wondering if they are worth anything as an investment. They are asking 299.00. Everyone I've seen on Gunbroker and other auction sites have starting bids over or at 700.00 BUT of course not a single bid on any that I have seen. Anyhow this store allows you to put it in layway for 20% Down and if you change your mind you can use the down payment as store credit for anything else in the store. So what do you guys think? Keeper or toss it back in. I've pretty much decided to let this one go and put the down payment on another gun. "I read a story that called this the worst pistol ever produced" That kind of scares me! I took a few quick pics of some number and japanese symbols so I could try to identify it. Unfortunately did not get any pics of the whole gun.

I think for a mere $300 it would make a great addition to a WWII collection. It is definitely a curio and while they are pretty homely, I think they're kind of neat. They may be common, but I seldom see them on the loose. Also it looks to be in good condition and of the few I have seen, most were battlefield pickups and were rather rough. I know I would buy it if I wasn't moving to Nevada in a couple of weeks.Last edited by highpower; 02-18-2014, 5:04 AM.MLC member.

They are one of the ugliest firearms around - which actually makes them quite cool in my opinion. Blocky, crazy ergonomics, and the ability to fire it without even pulling the trigger adds even more intrigue. Couple that with expensive and hard to find ammo, you have have a classic WWII Japanese pistol.
For $300, it is worth picking up. Add this to a pattern 26 revolver and a Type 14, you have a nice start to a collection.
Again, it's so ugly it's cool!Next to me in the blackness lay my oiled blue steel beauty. The greatest Christmas gift I had ever received, or would ever receive. Gradually, I drifted off to sleep, pringing ducks on the wing and getting off spectacular hip shots.

for 299 it'd be weird NOT to buy it. while they are a bizarre, funky pistol they usually work ok, although as said, ammo is a bit scarce. I would totally buy that.Comment

You should buy it. Were you expecting us to say anything else?

Yes, get it for that price. And despite all of the alarmists talking about them firing without pulling the trigger, it actually takes some doing to push the sear bar in enough to get that to happen. Reloading supplies are available. In terms of power, it is a bit more powerful than a .32 ACP. The ergonomics are odd, but not too bad.

That's a pretty good price. 8mm Nambu falls around the same range as .380 and 9x18. They aren't as bad as everyone says they are, but they won't win a beauty contest. The fun thing about collecting the Nambu Type 94, if you go that path, you find that that the production varied and wasn't just a case of the best was made at the beginning and then declined towards the end. There are actually peaks and valleys in the production.Comment

Buy it, and you could always sell it later to one of us for a reasonable profit!Well, the little store I've been finding alot of vintage guns at has a new one out. Well thanks for the responses, it just kind of scared me when I saw the arcticle that said it was the worlds worst gun. BUT what really swayed me is I already have the gun in lay away, and on the bottom shelf below where the store displays the pistol, I saw an old leather holster in great condition. So I asked the guy if that went with my gun. He grabbed it went into the back came out and said yep that holster fits it perfectly and the gun came in with it. From a quick look it appears to be original. From my understanding original holsters are more rare than the actual gun. I'm going to pick the gun up tomorrow, will try to post a few pictures.Comment
