Do we need a C&R to buy these? I was looking around on Cabelas and was interested in them. Do we need an FFL for these, or can we still have these shipped to our homes? What about Modern muzzle loaders?

Black powder guns?

Muzzle loaders (including modern) can be shipped directly to you.
All cartridge firearms, black or smokeless powder, with an actual date of manufacture of 1898 or earlier, are designated as "antique" by the BATF and can be shipped to you, no FFL required.
Post-1898 production of a pre-1898 model (Winchester '94, for example), no such luck.

You are correct but, a few years ago I ordered a Lyman Great Plains .50 cal and these idiots said that it had to be sent to an FFL/01 dealer. I learned that after I had placed the order over the internet, then two days later the company called me. I cancelled that order and will never buy a thing from them ever.

Sportsman's Guide is the other one that won't ship black powder to California.
The good news is Cabelas has their act together and has great prices, especially on Pietta revolvers, so they're the first stop. If they don't have it usually you need to go to a specialty company anyway and they all ship to CA.Comment
