    3 x 600 Yard Match, Sac Valley Feb 9th

A few of us vintage shooters shot this match last year and we had a blast. This same group are planning to shoot this again. Anyone else planning to go? I need a few more iron sight shooters to keep me company as the other vintage shooters are shooting scopes.

Unlike other matches where you move around to different distances, this one you stay on one place at 600 yards so not too bad.

I may shoot my Garand, have to clear my reloading area as the remodel has resulted in my garage be stacked with stuff....

If I could shoot surplus fmj I woukd be there with irons.

Im not setup for reloading and I dont see that happening anytime soon.

On top of that I got a bit bent out of shape by the manager" on duty out there.

One time he said I can shoot fmj on my own steel, next time I show up dragging my steel out and he assualts me verbally saying Wtf am I doing, when I began to tell him we talked before and I shot that day, he starts having a mild stroke asking me if I am calling him a liar.

I dropped the conversation immediately as it was one sided and his park.
He went on to say hiw he doesn't like the .22s silhouettes either.

I cannot find enjoyment in punching paper.

My family has acreage I hang steel plates from so sac valley was not a must for me but is about 40 minutes closer. The membership of two years before I can use private 100yd for steel is a bit long wait for me. On top if that its only 100 yd.

This match is on the 1000 yard range, paper targets, FMJ is good to go. The best part about this match is that you stay at 600 yards, no need to move your gear to the different distances. You will also learn how to pull, mark and score targets down in the bunker, loads of fun. Also, 600 yards with a vintage military rifle is challenging, no matter if it paper or steel.

I can't defend the guy you had issues with other than to say there has been some back and forth recently about allowing FMJ on the silhouette range. We are in the process of changing over to hardened steel and I foresee a time in the future when you will be able to use it there. There was some confusion a while back and that may have been what caused his actions. We tend to be pretty protective of our range since all the costs of repair comes from our club (several thousand $ already), couple that with people sneaking up there and punching AP holes through everything....its been a touchy subject.

I absolutely understand not hitting the clubs steel with fmj/steel core. I shot one time at the vintage shoot and the clubs animals look Dam near brand new ..because of hp or sp only. I humped my own steel out there the first time.

I would kick out and probably want to charge the people shooting with vandalism.

The 3x600 is a great match and a lot of fun, whether in the pits or on the line.

I'll be there. I'll bring my other rifles for show. We'll be parking at the 600 yard line.

Is this considered vintage military. It's a 1918 1896.... Lol. Sell me some brass and powder please...

I would love to go and bring my mosin if only so that I could say I gave it a shot. Alas, I can't afford back to back weekend trips to Sac right now, and since the weekend of the 17th is a three day weekend for me, that is the weekend I'm making the drive up so I can spend more tine with the folks.

                      Maybe next time.

If its a light rain they will shoot the whole thing from under cover at 1000 yards.
