Honestly, you won't regret it. I like my RC for historical reasons and the lammy stock. I have yet to pit it against my Czech Mauser to see which shoots better

As for the cleaning rod... I use a 30-06 boresnake. Works on all my war rifles so far except my 6.5 Jap Arisaka which is just barely too small and too snug. Need another boresnake, lol

RC K98's seem to command a premium over the YC 98's.

My experience has been that the YC's are the better shooters and the RC's have more of the historical markings

^^ Nice K98. Here is the ammo and bayo, would anyone happen to know if this is just common stuff or do I have something here?

The ammo is Yugo surplus, it is pretty good stuff, but has a reputation for having hard primers. You may need to hit them more than once to get them to go bang. It is corrosive, so clean accordingly.

That is a German Bayonet, but does not appear to be Nazi era. I tried to figure out what model it is from here, but am not having any luck.
Pictures and information on over 440 bayonets and 100 belt frogs from 65 countries.

The grip and guard look like Imperial era, and the proofs on the blade back look Imperial, but the blade looks to be too short. It looks like a 1998 or 1895/05 that was cut down. Does it have a scabbard?

On Edit: I think the "17" on the blade would mean 1917.

Giving this a bump, curious about the bayonet. Hoping one of the experts chimes in.

Looks like a version of the 1884/98 II. Made for the 98a?

The bayonet seems to be an S98/1905 model that looks way to hell buffed and possibly cut down to a shorter profile than the original "butcher blade" profile.

Waaaaaaaaaaaay over priced! Allan's Amory has some German mausers starting at $300.

I've seen those ones, they all look nasty and shot out. I wanted one that was still in decent shape. I'm most likely going to refinish the stock though.

I did a little bit of research on the bayonet. I can't find the link, but I read that from the markings it is a 1917, and was cut down to the smaller size by the turks inbetween ww1 and ww2. The one that was being referenced was identical to mine. A little disappointing that it isn't from 1933-1945 to match the gun, so I might sell it.

The rifle will be delivered to the FFL tomorrow, very excited to go in and see it. Not so happy about having to wait 10 days for a C&R though.

Hundids, I'd strongly reconsider refinishing the stock. As that will kill the overall value of the rifle. Even Russian Captured K98 stocks that have the crap shellaced out of them are worth more as is. If you're really displeased with the color of the red shellac and/or its flaking off, as it does from time to time, then simply strip the stock of it using natural mineral spirits. But NEVER, I repeat NEVER sand the stock. This is the worst thing you can do to a mil surp rifle's stock. At the very most, run some very fine steel wool over the wood if you want to polish up the grain. What's yours is yours and ultimately the decision is yours but from a collector's point of view, do not make any unnecessary alterations to a K98 if the sole purpose is to improve is cosmetic appearance.
