    M1 Carbine Rear Sight Help

    Loose rear sight help please.

How do you properly tighten the windage screw on an adjustable rear sight M1 Carbine? The sight assembly is securely attached and staked to the dovetails on the receiver. When I adjust the windage knob and sight it in, it constantly comes loose during recoil. It has done this on every range trip since I purchased it. It is on an Inland. Thanks.

    Any ideas?

The opposite end of the knob isn't secure. Should I use loc-tite or stake it? If so, will I still be able to adjust the windage?

I feel like I'm missing something really simplistic in regards to understanding this.

I have tried cinching down the nut, but then it can no longer be adjusted. Additionally, it still becomes loose after about 40 rounds. The nut on the opposite end is threaded, round, and the exterior is smooth.

It might be worn out and needs replacing - just hazarding a guess. You could try the blue loc-tite and see if that works but you will probably lose your ability to adjust the sight. If it does need replacing, I'm not sure where to get the piece from.

Hopefully someone who knows will provide input.

I had done some searching on parts, but all I found was the complete sight fixture. The base is secure in the receiver dovetails, and I prefer not to mess with that. I read that the sight base can be prone to becoming loose in the dovetails, and there is some concern about chipping/ cracking the receiver when dealing with that issue.

Should the nut turn at all when the windage knob is being turned?
