IBM Carbine

Received my IBM Carbine from the CMP on Monday.

All it needed was a little stock cleanup with mineral spirits and a wipedown with BLO. No cosmo anywhere.

Has an IBM barrel, and looks good to me.

The rear sight is loose. Anybody have the spec for positioning before it is staked in place?

Taking it to the range on Sunday for a little exercise.

Got mine last week. Dripping with cosmo. The inlet in the stock where the slide operates is loaded with goo! It will take me a few weeks to get the time to clean it up but I'll post pics when its ready to go.

I should be getting my Garand in a few weeks. What's the best idea to take that stuff off?

if you live in socal, a black painted aluminum trashcan works great

I do a lot of my stocks with this solar oven... if it fails, I have heating lights that go in there.

:P sweating the goo out slowly is great way to not dry out and crack the wood.

I'm in Tracy and am planning on the kitty litter and trashbag sweating method. Just leave it in my closed up car for the weekend I and should be good to go.

Furniture on black rag on dashboard of vehicle in direct sunlight on day or days when temp is 100 or higher (Redding Ca. will hit 110-115 this summer AND IT WORKED GREAT LAST year on Yugo SKS furniture ...

I just used a couple pots of hot water over a few days, the summer heat made sure the water evaporated and I followed up with CLP on the metal parts.
