    Percussion Caps

A Model 1860 Army joined my family recently. I made the mistake of not buying caps at the same time I bought the revolver. I had a perfectly wonderful experience buying the 1860 from Cabella's. I have not found a single tin of caps since my 1860 was delivered. Not even Cabella's has them now...

Nothing like having the most desired side arm of the Civil War, having a pound of Black Powder, 125 rounds of ball ammo and no caps...

Well, if you give us a hint about what part of the state you're in, perhaps somebody can help you out.

Yeah; I have a bunch / I'd sell you a tin at my cost if you are near me. Also if you really want to shoot it... those red plastic rings of caps for toy cap guns... need I say more?

I'm in the same boat as Joe. Bought the same weapon from Cabella's hopeing to get around the ammo shortage only to find out that there are no percussion caps available.

I sent an email to an outfit called "Walker47' asking them if they had any caps. I received an answer back stating they didn't have any caps and their supplier at the Shot show told him that there wasn't any to be had and didn't have a get well date. I sent an email back asking him what the problem was and this is his answer.

"Please watch current events, who's in control and what's going on in this country. It's gun control. When the government can't control the guns because the NRA and other organizations are fighting tooth and nail, they control the flow of components - powder, caps, primers, ammo. The DHS has purchased large supplies of everything to hoard. Even Midway USA, the largest online retailer, with a million customers, is out of stock and has no set time when they will be getting any.

My supplier has absolutely no idea when he'll be getting any either.

        Sorry,
        Andy"

          Shoulda got a flintlock.

I've heard its because they are making so many standard primers that they aren't bothering to switch over to producing P caps.

That's the likely situation. The primer supply has improved quite a bit (more than powder, certainly) so maybe the percussion cap supply will get better soon.

OP never did say where he is located. I bought a bunch of #10 CCI caps when I was first getting started and most of mine I've switched to #11 nipples and definitely wouldn't mind unloading some caps at only very slightly gougy prices.

Picked up a Tap-o-Cap about eight years ago. Figured something like this would happen - especially after '08. Takes a little ingenuity to make good caps with it, but it works well once you get the knack of it.

They're out of production now, but show up from time to time here and there...

Try "the Gun Works" in Oregon. Check out their web site. Good people to deal with and VERY knowledgeable about black powder guns.
