i think i was misunderstood.i in no way want to infringe on your right to shoot any gun you want. just as a conversation argument i see no hobby advantage to shooting a AK over a SKS. if it is pure macho shooting a 30 round mag i am ok with that. If i was in charge i would open up sales of select fire surplus M-16s to the public, if they do not have a criminal record.

If someone's shooting me, I want a semi-auto otherwise a bolt gun is as much, if not more, fun. It also keeps consumption down and makes every shot count. Also, it's much easier to keep track of your brass if you can control it.

I just bought a 1903 A3 that should be arriving in the mail in a week or so.

I love these older guns 1860's cartridge to 1900 military repeaters and handload/form odd ball cartridges for them.

I try to shoot them at silhouette rifle match's 200-500 meters where they were intended to be shot to get a better idea of the capabilities of their cartridge/mechanical design/era.

Rarely loiter on the 50/100 yard sniper lines even with post 1900 semi-auto military semi-autos.

I am fussy and to clean the Garand properly the operating system needs to be cleaned and properly lubed. the 1903A3 spray the end of the bolt with Remoil and some patches DONE.My 1943 Rrmington has a better chance of being used in combat then my march 1944 Springfield Garand. of course i love both.

I have a "Shooter" Garand. It is my default rifle and ALWAYS goes to a rifle-shoot.


It gets an annual detail strip, and a field strip every 200 rounds or so.

Other than that, it gets a bore/chamber/bolt-face cleanin', swab out the gas cylinder, and a dab of grease here and there if it needs it.

PULL the first few bore-brushes to get the heavy crud out, and then clean like a bolt gun.

Unless you're out in the rain, you don't need to break'em down, and marine grease stays put. It also has tons of solvents and corrosion inhibitors to keep the rifle safe and operating.


Segi Point, St. Mere Eglise, Iwo Jima, the Ardennes, Chosin Reservoir...

...It's a Battle Rifle, damn it!
