Steyr M1912 Nato bolt action rifle
Tags: None -
Steyr (In what was then the Austro-Hungarian Empire) made them on contract for Chile just before WW1 broke out. They were all originally chambered in 7x57mm Mauser. Basically a standard export Mauser Model 1898 rifle.
Chile rebored and rechambered them to take 7.62x51mm NATO in the early 1960's, used them as second line issue weapons for the Army and Police. Sold off as surplus to the US importers sometime afterwards."What a lovely but absolutely ridiculous sentiment!"Comment

What is the barrel length?
I believe the short barrel carbine length 1912 7.62 Nato Mausers were made with cut , rechambered, and re-threaded 03A3 barrels.
The longer barrel versions were made with a chamber insert and rebored 7x57 barrels. At least that is what I've heard. These chamber insert barrels could be problematic....a fool and his money were lucky to get together in the first place...Comment
