    K98 Help

My K98 just arrived to my FFL , but now I have to wait the 10 days , however the attendent noticed something on the rifle, it looks like a screw head might have been sheared off on the bottom of the reciever/magazine well (see attached photos). If you can shed any light on this or what the bottom is supposed to look like that would be awesome (I have no more photos of the rifle yet, other than what is attached). See link from where I bought it for any other issues/photos. Thanks.

I've got bad news for you pal.

That floorplate is normal. They are supposed to look like that.

Looks like the normal press button to release the bottom magazine latch.

Use a bullet tip to push it in and the latch, spring and follower should fall out for ease of cleaning, etc.

This should help you disassemble your 98k.

Thank you all for the help, it just looked off to me. Supposedly there is a crack (see Simpsons link for info). It does not look that bad. Other than that it looks great.

That sheared off looking thing is the california bullet button. Nazi's installed it predicting CA law.

It looks like a really nice rifle, mismatched but probably a great shooter. The laminates tend it always have some separation somewhere in the inleting. Make sure the action doesn't move around in the stock (the stock is probably a replacement) and it should not become a problem.

yep, normal. Press it in and then slide the magazine plate forward & it will pop off.

That is an excellent guide but it goes far beyond the basic field strip needed to clean your rifle.
