Had you been firing the rifle with bayonet extended, or folded back?

very nice! I like the heavy, sturdy feel of the m44 and always heard m38s just didn't balance as well. wish I'd bought an m38 when they were cheap, but alas, I got an m44, m95, and 91/30 when prices were good. t53 is the only thing I wouldn't feel bad about carving up. I have a barreled 91/30 action that I'm eventually going to turn into a sporter, barrel was already cut so I'm not the bubba here. have an ati stock that I bought pre-archangel and am still debating. either way, cool deal and glad it worked well for you, mosins are super-fun any which way so rock on!

Why try to make it something it isn't. I've learned the hard way that you should never permanently alter military rifles. You may think there are tons of them coming in and who cares about a $100 rifle anyway? Except some day that $100 rifle may be worth five times it's initial value if in it's original configuration.

I hate to sound hard and unfeeling but in my opinion you just ruined two pieces of history.

Funny you mentioned this, I just shot my 2nd T53 today, just to try it out among 5 others I had with me, and it shot better with bayonet extended. I will probably remove it to see if it'll further improve the accuracy, but I won't chop off the ears

Some of us buy them to shoot and will never sell them. If we're never going to sell them then why can't we alter them to our liking?

To some hardcore collectors, you shouldn't even remove the cosmo!

As for the OP, if it's made the rifle more fun to shoot for you, then blast away!

So he should spend five hundred bucks on some OTHER rifle, because a T53 MIGHT be worth somewhere near five hundred bucks at some point in the future, maybe?

OP, excellent work. You made yourself happier with it, and you're going to enjoy it much more!

My problem is i fall in love with these things no matter how cheap they are. i paid 150 for my T-53 and it exceeded my expectations. the metal and bore are very nice, the wood is better than most i have seen. the action chambering and extracting is very smooth.

Well how about that !? Took my friends T53 out and the only thing we did was take out the original front site post and put that Johnny thing on it. A little filing and punch and hammer got it zeroed at 100 yards just now. Of course we using table with sand bags but its perfect as is is. No one would know the front site was replaced except all you guys (and gals). Shooting standing is something else. Funny how much attention you get from the rangers at L ytle shooting the T53 and M44. Good thing we got out before the wind starts blowing tomorrow. Hope the guy with the Ninja AR enjoyed

I love my T53's, but not as much as my M38's. The only thing I love more than my M38's is my M91/59.

What history???? Can you elaborate? What's so special about the history behind the T53's??
