    valuing SKS with new law

Things just got too stacked up before the new year so...
I have a couple of pretty nice, all matching Russian SKS. One is Tula 1952, arsenal refurbished, serial on stock (etc, some other marks still on stock), nothing electro-matched, all original matched. The other is 1953 or 1954, similar condition. Both just really clean.

I know these were likely worth more prior to the first. I did look at gun broker...

    Any good intel?
    TIA
There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.

It's a muzzle BRAKE, not a muzzle break. Or is your muzzle tired?

I will give you the straight and narrow. For some reason Gunbroker prices on Russian SKS seem to be trending down. I picked up two that are nearly perfect and I came in well under 1K with shipping for both.

I don't think that 2014 makes all that much difference. California has a built in market for SKS rifles because they are fixed 10 round mags without the need for any additional neutering.

If the rifles are all matching including the stock, that is a +. If the stock is force matched (most are) that will cause a small hit to the value. Blued finish will go higher than BBQ. Chrome bolt will go higher than black bolt. Lammy stocks will go higher than hardwood, although nicely mottled red/black stocks are always popular.

Finally, 53-54 is a plus, those years seem less common than the other years (except 49, first year and big bucks!)

Thanks for those that provided good intel!! It did seem the GB is tending down, but some of them had a somewhat "mis-matched" description.

All good intel, I would like to add though that is your 53'-54' is perhaps a Izhevsk ,since they only made them in those years. Then you could knock the price up to $600 - $800 for that rifle alone depending on stock, condition, all matching .... etc

I agree with the above post. A lot of people thought that the C&R market would bring a premium at the end of last year and the supply sky rocketed. Now with the FEES involved with buying a PPT gun over 50 years old I suspect that the prices will fall rapidly since the advantage of a 50 year old, no paperwork rifle just got thrown out the window.

Of course I could be totally wrong like I usually am.

Prices should be comparable to what's on gunbroker -- the bottom-end of SKS pricing has been set with the latest batch of chinese C&Rs.

I am looking for a good SKS, Russian, Romanian, or Chinese if anyone wants to part with one.
                    Thanks,
                    Steve in Murrieta

I watched prices get crazy here in the FS forum at the end of the year. I hoped to get an SKS but people were asking too much. I am still really looking for one so please let me know if you have one (Russian, Romanian, Chinese). I have a WTB ad placed but nothing has turned up yet.

Well, I pulled the other one out of the sock and took a look. It's a 1950 all matching Tula with laminate stock, old looking web sling attached. Blued, not barbecued..... Lots of listings on GB, but seems like a lot of them just up to be looked at.... So frustrating to live in Ca and have to deal with paperwork etc....

Looks like the Chinese stuff is cheap, but still won't be out the door at 350, maybe not $400, so I don't think prices have dropped all THAT much......

I remember Pomona when these guys were $79, retail........
ETA: of course, in those days I didn't buy any. Hindsight (facepalm here).... These came to me in trades much much later.........
