    Mosin Nagant M44 Muzzle Flash

My sons and I were out at the rifle range early last week and one of them took this fantastic shot of the M44's muzzle flash. It took a few tries, but the result far surpassed our expectations.

Oh yeah, those are awesome. It looks like you're trying to neutralize a tank!

Details on the ammo, please. Surplus light ball, heavy ball, handload?

Just shot my new-to-me Type 53 today and it's a 4 MOA rifle with my light loaded handloads.

I did one of the Friday night rifle shoots at oak tree gun club a while back with my Romanian M-44. talk about a ego pissing contest . their might be a few guns with a bigger muzzle flash but i doubt the ammo costs .18c. in fact i am sure of it.It is kind of cruel to shoot one next to a sweet couple with a tactical 22lr that has no clue what they are in store for.

              Russian surplus light ball.

As an aside, extraction was positively beastly. I found that I had to wrestle with the bolt every time I shot the rifle. Upon further examination, I saw that the face of the chamber appeared to be somewhat peened (Russian armorers?), and that there were marks on fired cases indicative of a sharp edge. Upon arriving home I immediately smoothed out the irregularities and the rifle now functions as it should.

No. The longer barrel of the 91/30 doesn't have near the muzzle flash of their shorter brethren.

No. The barrel is longer in a 91/30 thus having more room to burn up gun powder.

No. The M91/30 has a 29" barrel versus the 20" barrel on the M44 and you get a more complete powder burn in the longer barrel version.

Edit: Good reason to get yourself an M38, M44, T53, or M91/59
