k98 Ex-Sniper

Looking to pick up a k98 and in searching found what looks to be a nice one, but seems to be an ex-sniper with two holes on the side of the receiver that had been filled at one point.

My question is, can an ex-sniper k98 still be a great shooting rifle? What would the accuracy be like compared to a standard k98 with a good condition bore?

I'm no expert, but I think if you can post pictures that would help those who know determine if it is an ex-sniper or some Bubba's D&T job. I would think a true ex-sniper would be desirable, but you'd want to be sure before paying any premium and of course current barrel condition will be important if you want an accurate rifle.

Two holes or three holes in the left side of the receiver?

Believe the short rail sniper mounting system required three screws.
A more experienced collector may be able to chime in.

I have heard of Russians "de-snipering" some of their Mosin Nagant sniper rifles, never heard of Germans doing this.

The short side rail and the long side rail German 98K snipers all had three holes in the side of the receiver.

Never heard of a German Sniper rifle with two holes in the side.

Im pretty sure I saw the rifle somewhere on the net. Its a regular k98 with 2 holes in it. He will now notice they have different receivers.
