K98 smith work in So Cal

So this old sporter K98 has serious headspace issues - and probably a bolt issue on top of the head-space problem.
Cycles and fires just fine - until there is a round in it, lol.

Is there anyone one in Southern California any members here have had good business with -
I think there is a fine rifle under these teething troubles - but the work is beyond me.

Probably lug setback, if so, you cannot fix without machining lug seats/reheat treat of receiver.

You say "headspace issues" - but has the headspace actually been checked?

What it the bolt from? Does it match or is it from another rifle? If so, what kind of Mauser? I've seen otherwise fine rifles have serious problems when something like a Turk bolt and/or extractor is used in them.

When you say "sporter", that covers a lot of ground - from beautiful finely finished custom rifles made by master craftsmen, to hideous abortions that every known form of grinding and welding crime has been committed upon by some drooling toothless albino livestock-molester who looks like the bastard offspring of the "you got a pretty mouth" homo rapist from "Deliverance" and the underground dwelling cannibal mutants from "The Hills Have Eyes".

Ha - I like you use of words, Marcus,

It's a little post-war Cigarette trade rifle (assembled from pre-war parts) I picked up - the matched scope is from a factory that was destroyed in the 1940's (Sirius) - the donor was a 1925 Mauser (dated) - the trigger pack was a custom set trigger.

The bolt has been sporterized but is not matching numbers with the rifle.
It must have worked at one time, because it has indented the side (multiple times) of the stock with the checkering used for the bolt end.

I quite like the rifle, so I don't mind spending a bit to get it up and running again. But, I'd like someone who is a known entity here, I don't want to take it to a guy who has done great work on AR's and figures he can do the work. I have been down that street before,
