    K98 vs. G33

I decided to do a sound signature comparison based on my memory of shooting these two from my collection.

I have been telling people for a long time that the slightly shorter barrel and metal buttplate combined with lighter weight, did not affect the recoil, muzzle flash or sound signature of the Jaeger rifle.
(I have shot them both a lot, but clearly am mentally deficient.)

Well, I did my comparison test, and actually I filmed it four times to try to get a result that was closer to my description - I wasn't going down without a fight, lol.
By the fourth filming - the one in the clip below - my shooting partners were starting to make fun of me pretty badly - they all knew what I was trying to prove, and the futility of it was not lost on them.

It seems there is a difference, and to my frustration as the rifle heated up, the flash seemed to get bigger, lol.

Anyway - here's the clip - make your own judgement.

I brought a bunch out to trade, didn't see anyone, so I shot them instead, lol.

That 33/40 definitely has a louder "crack" to it.
I was looking forward to watching the Maxim video, but it was rather short.

Yeah, the G33/40 has a bark to it. The K98 had its typical "pew" sound.

Well, we can still trade. What organ does it take to get either of those rifles?

The flash was definitely larger on the G33. That's awesome that both of those rifles are matching. Are they bring backs?

              Yes - the Maxim.
The ammo was magnetic, so no go at Angeles.
              Lopez Canyon was locked up.
A sword maker friend has a place in the bookies, we set up there, but we had a case split, then after clearing split again - if that was the video you meant.

It was a lot of bloodied knuckles and grease, spilled distilled water and dirt.
(Not to mention a bruised shoulder from a mountaineers carbine, lol.)
We'll get it working and post a vid, I think I probably did something wrong that was covered in stage one of first level Russian cadet basic training - I'll admit to that later - one mea culpa a day is enough

(The K98 was a bringback - the G33/40 I don't know anything about - GB purchase, no stories.)

Wow, I've never seen Czech silvertip split like that, copper washed either!
I've seen SVT-40's with a worn out gas piston/cyl rip the base off when the gas adjuster was turned all the way up to compensate, but nothing like that!
Looks like basically the same problem, gas/extraction timing issue. I'm curious to know what you find the problem to be.

yep, the 33 was notably louder and had a decent-sized fireball at the muzzle. funny how different things seem when shooting them compared to standing behind. most of my rifles seem the same but when watching other people shoot them I go "damn!" each one has distinctive characteristics, just not as noticeable when you're the one shooting. great video!

Yes - you are correct - for a few rounds the distinction was imperceptible to me.

*Although by the fourth box of ammo, I was less excited about shooting the G33 - I faked it pretty good though

It's a trade off - if I was a mountaineer, the G33 would have been a lot more desirable, even with the blast and kick, the majority of time would have been spent carrying, not shooting it after all.

I have put my G33-40 up for sale in the exchange section.

The rifle is matching - but, the bolt does not match the rifle.
It is however a correct G33-40 lightened bolt.
This is an awesome rifle and a great opportunity to get your hands on one for a lot less than GB or anywhere else, for that matter.

Hard to tell definitively with the inexpensive built-in microphone but to me, the G33 is louder and the tone signature is higher and sharper. The K98 sounds duller and lower in frequency.

Would be interesting to do the same experiment with the 91/30 and the M44. Most would say that the M44 is louder but it would be much more precise to record it and to use sound meter to actually measure. I had an audio post company and we used to use white noise, pink noise and EQs to tune the room. In music and sound for picture, slightly louder is almost always perceived as sounding "better", although with guns, I don't think that holds true.
