gas plug for m1

Hey all.
So I was lucky enough to have gotten an M1 Garand for christmas and as far as I can understand, I can only shoot surplus m2 Ball ammo (150 grain stuff on the cmp site or the special m1 ammo made by federal) through it. I understand that if some other commercial rounds are used, damage to the op rod may occur.
In doing some research, I found that there are some ways to allow the safe use of commercial ammo including several different adjustable gas screws- now, I really have no interest in these at all since
A) I don't want to have to adjust my rifle every time I change ammunition
B) I don't want to use a product that has the potential for letting gunk in my rifle.
So after a little more searching I found this:

Had anyone used this? The science behind it seems sound enough... has anyone read any negative reviews by people who actually used it? I havent found any. ..

There are a few manufacturers making 150 grain ammo for Garands. Federal, PPU, and Lake City are a few I can think of off the top of my head. Getting the gas plug is not a bad idea though for those times when you can't find 150 grain.

I use an adjustable plug by Sharkie and it works fine hassle free.

i also recently got a M1 garand. right now i have a few hundred rounds of the ball 2 ammo. when i use it up i am switching to the ported gas plug and will use the same ammo i use in the Springfield 1903A3. Some prefer the adjustable gas plug but i just want to plug and play with the ported one. both work.

I just order from the CMP 3 cases at a time. When I am on my last case I order 3 more.

Baboosh thats a great idea, but I rarely have that much spending money at a time lol... and wjat happens when they run out or SHTF? Thats really why I want it...

Its no big deal to dial in a adjustable gas screw, it can be done with less than a enblocof ammo

Best part about CMP is they do not charge your card till they ship. Instead of buying 100 rounds here and a 100 rounds there save the money and order from CMP and rinse and repeat. You may have to change your shooting schedule once to get on track but once you are then you are set.

If for SHTF then stockup on an extra case everytime you order until you get to your reserve. That is what I did until I have my 1k round reserve I keep for every caliber I shoot.

I have the Garand Gear plug on all three of mine... You will find lots of testimonies regarding that plug. Nice that it is install and forget simple, and reasonably priced.

I have a "Garand Gear" gas plug on mine and love it. No adjustments. Rounds cycle just fine.

I think "shtf" should be banned from the C&R section. It is so off-topicky.

I bought my Garand for shtf and I have bandoliers of HXP for shtf. I worry about running out of HXP during shtf so I have been stocking up because shtf will be no joke and I will be ready for shtf with my Garand and shtf ammo.

You are going to use bandoliers for SHTF? I rigged up a SHTF carrying device which allows me to carry all 10 ammo cans of SHTF ammo during a real SHTF scenario.

You are going to look silly in when the SHTF running around with badoliers.

Mudbass, I have the Garand Gear ported gas plug installed on my Garand and it works perfectly. I've used it with my own reloads and commercial M1 Garand safe ammo with no issues. I would highly recommend picking it up because it's a cheap price to pay for piece of mind knowing you can shoot any commercial ammo with it and know it will work perfectly with any Garand safe ammo too without having to make any adjustments to it.

Worried? Get a semi auto in a more readily available caliber like 7.62x51.
