    SKS Stock Replacement?

Any good leads on places to buy a new wood stock set for my SKS?

I just got my second SKS and the wood is really messed up. The metal is manageable but the wood will be damn near impossible to salvage.

I do not want to spend a bucket of cash on a stock for a $300 rifle. I thought you C&R guys might know a good place to pick up a new, replacement wood stock.

ETA: I suppose I should have said the SKS is one of the Chinese from Classic Firearms. I am new to the SKS world so I do not know if all these stock are interchangeable or not.

I like the Tapco stocks and you can scoop one up on Amazon or eBay for around $70 and or a clean wood one for around $40 del

There are slim pickings around right now for stocks, but the best deals I have found have been on ebay. I hear these are alright too.

        Good hunting!

Ebay is where its at. I bought a few Romanian surplus stocks there for about $25 each, they were beaten pretty badly but not nearly as bad as some of those Type 56 stocks I've seen.

To my knowledge, most if not all stocks that are notched to accommodate a blade bayonet will fit any SKS barreled action with a blade bayonet. However, SKS's with spike bayonets demand a different kind of stock, one that has a broader, and more shallow channel meant to accommodate a spike bayonet.

A Dremel will make any stock work. Better said, you might need a Dremel.

A plastic stock theoretically demands adherence to 922r.

Search for my name on posts. I asked a few weeks ago andbhad great leads. I dont do paypal BS so most of ebay was off limits. The other few websites could only guarantee. ..cracked stocks. I still need 3 more replacement stocks, but in the mean time I bought 2 "jungle" vietnam stocks. They are OEM , never used in brand new condition. I had to shave a bit to fit but pretty minor. The kind of cool thingnis these Chinese rifles would bif hsd a good chance to be used in VC area, although the more you read about thesee glass stocks, its a true ghost stock story.

Ebay is the way to go. GB, not so much. Be persistent on searching everyday and don't forget to put in a bid. I don't go over $30.

Some things I was looking/asking about from the Seller: 1) will it fit your barrel type (pinned or threaded) 2) bayonet (spike or blade) 3) hardware (trigger guard spring, cross/support bolt

I got myself a really nice SKS replacement stock, no numbers, blade bayonet slot, not rust anywhere. It was a little snug but a little wiggle and a tap from a rubber mallet (SKS's are tough) and it popped in.

It's been hard for me to find a decent replacement that fits a blade bayonet.
Found some one ebay, but the one I bought was both for a pinned barrel, and spike bayo. Lots of dremel work made it fit, but the bayo won't close completely in the stock.

I don't know if he still has any available, but the reddish-brown hard plastic composite Chinese "jungle stocks" made for the blade bayonet SKS that Wolfsburg Bob had for sale over at The AK Files are the best that are out there.

Be aware that some other folks sell these stocks, but most of them do not have the unique (and about impossible to find loose) buttplate, rear sling swivel, and recoil crossbolt that these stocks need.

Decent Romanian stocks are hard to find and not technically correct, but will work. Soviet SKS stocks will also work, but are rare and expensive in good condition.

I'm not saying that any and all of the various cheap, nasty, and ugly looking aftermarket stocks that look like some kind of futuristic plastic sex toy that gay space aliens stick up each other's backsides are gayer looking than Richard Simmons and Alexis Arquette in drag dancing in the West Hollywood Pride Parade, but if I did I wouldn't be lying.
