Serial number and bound book question.

I have a question.

I know when we receive a C + R firearm we must record it in our bound book.
I received a Mosin Nagant from J + G and on their paper work they have a serial number. It is also engraved on the barrel. The rifle has another set of numbers on the barrel, stock and trigger set. They all match. I am guessing this is the real serial number. My question is do I record the J + G engraved number or the stamped one on the rifle? Or both?

JG serial number (importers serial number actually) needs to be logged in.

Above post is correct... Only use the importers serial number which was used by j&g.

I'd guess that the original serial number has some cryllic letters in it which is why the importer had to remark it.

That said, I only plan on logging items I received from an 01 dealer. I wasn't planning on logging any C&R FTF transfers as I only bought them, who cares since I was the buyer. I will obviously log FTF sales. Yay or nay in my thinking?

Any C&R you acquire regardless how it is obtained needs to be logged into your book.

as an 03FFL, you are required to log all C&R transactions that occur WHILE you are licensed, whether or not you need to USE your 03 in the transaction.

that also applies to sales of pre-license acquisitions. you would need to log in the firearm stating that it was a pre-license acquisition and then log it out to the buyer, or the buyer's FFL.

I recommend you start reading on the subject. You should have received a package with or after your license that answers what to log and the rules you agreed to with your license. As far as posting that you are not following the rules on a forum not to smart.

As far as logging goes google bound book pages till you find one you like and fill in all the boxes. If you get something that has no import marks or serial number just put none.

I recommend you try and get information about what to do and how to do it before you do anything. I always try to do some research on what I want to buy before I buy. It helps me know I am getting what I want and if its legal like C&Rs with GL muzzle devices. Good luck

478.125(f) Firearms receipt and disposition by licensed collectors. Each licensed collector shall enter into a record each receipt and disposition of firearms curios or relics. The record required by this paragraph shall be maintained in bound form under the format prescribed below.

Then you are doing it wrong.

There was also an open letter to C&R FFLs from ATF back in 2001 that spells out some other things that are required.

No, all the numbers are "numbers". There are 6 of them. The nice thing is that they all match.
