    Silhouette Match

There will be a Military Rifle Silhouette Match at the Pala range on Sunday the 29th. Classes for As Issued Iron Sights, Sniper, and Semi Auto. Details at ncsapala.com. Lots of fun, no you probably won't win, but you will meet other shooters and make plans to do better next time.

How much ammo is needed? What distance will we shoot? Are the matches shot simultaneously or can one shoot in more than 1 match? Prone, bench, offhand?

The matches are run simultaneously, so you'll have to pick one. The targets are life sized steel silhouettes of Chickens at 200 meters (220 yards), Pigs at 300 meters (320 yards), Turkeys at 385 meters (420 yards), and Rams at 500 meters (550 yards), you have to knock them off the rail to count. All shot prone from a covered firing line, 10 minutes per relay, unlimited number of shots on a permanent animal sighter welded to the rail, then 10 shots for record at the rest of the animals, which you will hopefully knock down. You will need 40 rounds for record plus 20 or 30 for sighters, surplus, lead tipped, match ammo OK, no steel core ( too hard on targets ). Bring a pad to lie on, spotting scope, if you have one. You will be paired with another shooter, who will spot for each other. Range is open at 7:30, sighting in starts about 8:00, matches starts about 9:00, cost is $25. You will make mistakes, you will make new friends, you will do better the next time and you will have fun.
