Its a good idea to safety check your rifles. Although headspace issues are quite rare for Mosins.

Ive never done a chamber casting but if your pressed for time a wax casting looks like easy DIY to get a general shape of the chamber. I know they typically use cerrosafe which is a casting metal for precise dimensions.

The ammo is gtg however i heard that there have been batches of the Romanian 762x54 that are corrosive even though it says non corrosive.. so maybe a good idea to wash all the bores with water no matter

If you aren't able to find anything that works for Friday, bring your rifles out to Sac Valley range on Saturday and I can let you use my headspace gauges to check your mosins. There is a military silhouette match out there the third saturday of every month and it is a blast! You can get info on that while you are there.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

Post pics of the Arisakas , most are marked under the forearm section of the stock if rechambered.

Do the Arisakas have 1 or 2 holes upper receiver about over the chamber ( best way to explain locations ) ?

some rechambered by Chinese to 7.92x54 ( if I remember right)

Both my Arisakas have 2 holes upper receiver they are type 38 ( 6.5 jap original chambering) Sporterized was rechambered for 6.5x 257.

              Posting pics would help.

Never been there, but what a great old fashioned type store. Hundreds of guns. The place was teeming with customers and staff. Someone immediately listened to what I needed. ( headspace/safety check 5 rifles & chamber check two Arisakas). He was a little miffed with my large request, being that they were so busy, but took them to the back. Before I could peruse 25% of their store, they were done ! 4 were cleared & ready. One Type 53 had a broken shell lodged in the chamber, which I hadn't even seen.
AWESOME job guys. THANK YOU !
To top it off, they only charged me $5 each rifle for headspace/safety check & $45 for broken shell & check.

By the way, am I limited to only one post per 24 hours in this forum category?
I didn't want to risk getting banned, so I've waited to get back to you guys.
Thank you for the great information.

I've looked the Arisaka's over for markings (most of which can not be typed on my keyboard) & I'm now trying to figure out how to post the pics. Might use Photobucket or ???

Anyway, I'm thrilled to have something new to try at the range tomorrow.
No, unless they have installed some sort of anti-spamming feature for newer users. The only thing they frown on is bumping sales posts more than once a day.

Photobucket normally works just fine, though I usually edit the link so it only posts the [img] [/img] part. Also, do a google seach for "Arisaka series", and you will get a listing showing you which series and factory your guns came from.

are the arisakas badly sportered? if only the stocks are cut I'd restore them.
