How do they compare with the CMP offerings?

These have import marks, I'm assuming?

yep theyre stamped cai, i bought a couple of "good" examples when they first got them in and the bores were pretty rough. i picked up an inland and a saginaw and really wasnt to happy so i called down there and asked for a discount or id be sending them back, they let me have them for $349 a piece. after the cleanup the bores still have a bit of pitting, i havnt shot them yet to see if it'll shoot out but for $349 a pop im not complaining to much.

If you haven't ordered from Century before, make sure you familiarize yourself with the ratings system they use for condition.


Good Condition: 25%-50% blue remaining, stocks marred (several dings in wood), bores slightly worn and dark, no corrosion or pitting that will interfere with proper functioning. Complete and in working condition.

All of the different condition standards for rating firearms use the term "Good Condition" differently than many folks are used to. If you ask somebody about the bore on a rifle they are selling and they say "the bore is good", you might not expect them to mean the bore is "slightly worn and dark", but that's what "good" really means in the firearms collecting world.

I always stuck with "Very Good" or better when ordering from C&R rifle vendors and had "very good" luck.

I didn't know that CAI would ship them to a C&R in California. I was looking at a few of the other large dealers and none of them would ship one of the carbines to a C&R out here :-(

See if you can get in on the CMP action. You'll get a better deal on a better rifle.

After sending in your C&R license to Century, they can be very slow to put your license in the system. Took 6-8 weeks to process mine before I was able to make an order.

Building a rapport with a sales rep at Century is usually a good idea, as they tend to look after you. I have had some exceptional service from David Kennedy (1-800-999-4899 Extension 6). He has helped me with getting hi-caps removed from AK parts kits to ship here, given me great advice on thier shotguns, called me when backorders comes in, returns my calls promptly etc. He also put me on his email mailing list, which has turned up some real bargains. A great guy to deal with.

I'm sure you could get someone at Century to ship a M1 Carbine to you without it's 15rd magazine.

I quit doing business with Century when they stopped shipping ammo to anyone in CA but an FFL01. They've since adjusted that policy to shipping ammo to an FFL01 or 03 in CA, but they won't have my business until they support ALL CA shooters.

When I did buy stuff from them, they had no problems shipping rifles to me (FFL03)

See if you can get in on the CMP action. You'll get a better deal on a better rifle.

The CMP option is a great idea since it will save you about a hundred dollars. Meeting the requirements takes a little leg work, but if you are interested in a Garand too it is certainly the best option.

They reversed their policy a some months back. You can now buy ammo from Century if your C&R is on file with them. $75 minimum and it's $12.95 shipping.
