    SKS Dry Fire question

First, I want to say that I am new to the SKS platform. I received my first SKS today and was tinkering with it, and checking it out. I am not sure of something though... pull the bolt back, and release it should be cocked. If I pull the trigger, without safety of course, is it supposed to "click"? When I pull the trigger, nothing is happening and I do not know if this is normal or if I should hear a click as I would with a Mosin Nagant.

yea positively the hammer should be smacking the pin

You can take the trigger group out and check whats happening

While you can dry fire a SKS. It can peen the tip of the pin and the channel if done excessively. Snap caps are recommended

              Well perhaps something is wrong.

I am in the process of strip cleaning it and the trigger does not seem to be working correctly. I can not get the hammer to fall.

Don't ease the bolt closed, it won't close all the way.
Let the bolt slam closed by letting it go then try the trigger. Bet it works then..

Are you sure everything fits correctly? Did it click in correctly when you snapped back the trigger guard? And did the trigger guard go under the magazine in its groove correct? If yes then did you dissemble the bolt?

Ok... I have de-gunked 75% of the rifle, put it back together and slammed the bolt closed and now the trigger works correctly! I only managed to smash the ***** out of my finger once. Dang that hammer slams hard on the thumb.

I will have to clean it up really nice and get some pictured before I put some new wood on it.

I will say that I really like the looks of this rifle. I may get another before the end of the year... Just because...

                          Thanks team SKS.

It is certainly a very solid rifle, aggressive, sleek and a fine piece of history. Now to clean the cosmo off of it in the winter. Summer is easy with trash bags in the attic. Never done this in the winter before. Should be fun.
